USB Drive gets detected as hard drive

There's an application I need, but can only be run from a USB drive, I get an error when trying, but when I plug in my USB, it doesn't get detected as a USB, rather as a hard drive.

It's a sandisk 8gb cruzer. FAT32, it started when I made it a bootable USB, then I wanted to use it for other things, I removed the boot partition, reformatted completely, and now I can't use it as a USB.

Is there any solutions?
I got windows 7, 64. Ultimate.

Go in your Windows Disk Management Utility, take a screenshot of what you see and post it here.

I named the "hard drive" to USB, by the way.

The problem, appears, is not Windows but the device itself. For some reason, the device is registering itself as a Mass Storage device, not a Removable Storage device.

A nifty program I found via this blog entry called BootIt solved the problem for me in a jiffy: simply switch on the "removable bit"! Unplug and replug, and you're set to go.

I understand there's a bloatware version of this program all over the internet. See if you can get version 1.07; that gets the job done.

Additional bonus of being able to switch the "removable" bit: you can partition your flash drive!

Your USB disk configuration seems normal to me.
What application are you trying to use with it ?

I would suggest you to check this USB device connecting to a different computer and check if there also it displays as a HDD.

Actually, some pen drives or USB devices comes with in-built firmware’s which install every time connect to the computer then gets detected by the computer as a removable device.

Also, have you tried fixing it with these instructions?

1. Open CMD and write diskpart
2. Type "list disk" and choose your usb drive (for ex. your usb drive is disk 1)
3. Find the disk with the suspected memory amount. Type "select disk 1" or whatever the disk number is if it is different.
4. Type "clean"
5. Type "create partition primary"
6. Type "select partition 1"
7. Type "active"
8. Type "format fs=NTFS" or "format fs=FAT32" if you would like files that are always less than 4GB to be transferred in and out.

I've tried.

Also for Aura, it's a HWID locked program, that's why I didn't post it.

I'll try the other user's solution, will post back if it worked.

EDIT: The program is kind of difficult. Gave me a bunch a files with a setup, etc. and when it was "done" it added a bunch of files into the "hard drive."

What happens when you plug the pen drive into other computers? Is it a HDD?

Yes. Hopsin described my program specifically though, I want it to be recognized as a removable storage device, not a hard disk drive.
Download the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool :

And format your USB Flash Drive with it, let me know if it works after or not.

Have you tried using BootIt yet or not?

A direct download link if you will: http://download.cnet.com/BootIt-Bare-Met...e6eb&dlm=0

Tried but it's quite confusing. Will try once again.
USB Flash drives can be problematic if they came with factory installed software such as encryption or other utilities that facilitate app launching when inserted. Removable storage media that are USB connected normally can not auto launch and would employ firmware to identify it as a U3 disk storage device in order to launch upon insertion into a port. Some Sandisk Flash drives have U3 Launchpad software installed that require actual removal, simply formatting will NOT disable the U3 firmware. Use Sandisk's own removal tool here http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail..._id/101834 if your model originally had the U3 Launchpad software on it. Otherwise what has likely occurred is that whatever software you originally used to create a bootable image on it has modified the drive's partition table or created more than a single partition on the drive. Windows does not support more than a single partition on USB media and the presence of a partition table indicating more than one can choke Windows. Use HP's Flash Format Tool http://hp-usb-disk-storage-format-tool.en.lo4d.com/ to not only format the drive as well as fix drive layout geometry issues that may exist.

Take care
it says the total storage is 7.4Gb, im assuming youre using an 8gb stick? maybe there is a hidden partition. try viewing it on a mac or linux machine to see if you can find it. i just had a similar problem with one of my HDD's

Try the rest of the solutions and if they do not work, then I'd like you to call SanDisk and see about your USB. Tell them that your firmware is corrupted because you've tried everything to repair it except firmware troubleshooting since there are none. This is a common cause of such BS.

Also, use YUMI MULTIBOOT if you ever dare to create another multiboot pen drive again.

No other methods will work on this USB, I garauntee. See if the flash drive is under warranty and if you can get a new one bro. I'm sorry. 😵
