Windows 8.1 is faster and more stable than Windows 7. It will stay supported longer and it's less resource intensive. I would go Windows 8.1, just avoid Windows 8.
If Aura were here he'd tell you to ditch Windows and grab a Mac but I don't think you want a Mac do you?
Not Windows 8, Windows 8.1.
Also, there's no best, it's completely up to you, in the end, it's down to personal preference. People have to stop making these threads already. Also, it belongs in one of the Windows section. Fiat justitia ruat cælum

I prefer windows 7 but as aura already mentioned that it's up to you. Yeah win 8.1 already got huge popularity which tells both are really great to use.

Windows 8 users can upgrade to Windows 8.1 for free, not Windows 10. And why is Windows 7 better than Windows 8.1? I honestly at first didn't like Windows 8. It had stability issues. I decided to suck it in and realized most of the issues I had were solved in updates.
My Windows 8.1 installation uses ~300MB less memory. My Windows 8.1 installation uses ~13% less processing power. My Windows 8.1 installation boots up 12.5 seconds faster than Windows 7. Right now, I'm on Windows 10 Technical Preview. It's even slicker than 8.1. Only downside is the windows control bars go transparent and unclickable where control box is. But, what do you expect from a Technical Preview? It'll be fixed sooner or later. It rarely happens.

I would always recommend Windows 7, although depending on the system/user it can be beneficial to install 8/8.1
Also, if you do decide on windows 8, try out Start8 it basically brings Windows 7's start menu into windows 8; it's technically paid but some places offer it 'free' ;) //First post// (Dec 9, 2014 02:32 PM)lewisg743 Wrote: I would always recommend Windows 7, although depending on the system/user it can be beneficial to install 8/8.1 OR he could just use ClassicShell which is totally customizable (and always updated) AND free ... http://www.classicshell.net/ Fiat justitia ruat cælum
