Hardware Prices in the UK are ridiculous...

I'm just comparing some stuff here and it seems like if we traveled to the US on boat or some shit we'd be saving money.. I'm looking at a build here that I bought, all items off Amazon it came to a total of £850. Then I checked on .com and it came to $950 which is like £625. Anybody else face these problems?
It's the same in Denmark. US prices are just so cheap ;_;
Not on this Russian site I saw. An Intel 3.5Ghz Processor was less than 100 euros. Makes me want to go to Russia just for the cheap tech!
Try Scan.co.uk, Got all of my stuff there, amazing prices for UK :)
Also the shipping is amazing, Litterally it texts you when the delivery truck is starting its rounds, and then it also fucking texts you when your house is next so you can clear up crack pipes and shit in time. Scan is a fucking amazing site, My daughter moans every night about not having any food to eat but fuck that, I got shit from scan.....

I never really thought anything of the prices here in the US, I thought it was the same across seas. Damn, it sucks that your prices are so much higher.
Everything is cheaper in the U.S because the United States Dollar is worth so much more (has more purchasing power), and there are much less taxes in U.S.

Euro to USD hit a low of $1.19 today which is the lowest it has been in over 4 years, and the USD already had more purchasing power to begin with.

If that's the case, why is the Euro more than $1?

EDIT: One shitty joke, and 3 long ass replies later I learned more than I ever cared to.

Because you purchase things from China, and therefore you're converting USD into Yuan. When USD goes up, $1 will buy you even more Yuan. So things imported from China are much cheaper.

There is also the VAT tax and import taxes that European countries have. It's an absolutely insane high tax and it makes shit so much more expensive. New video games run at 100 AUS or more easily, when they're $60 USD in America.

It's mainly the absurdly high import tax that makes everything more expensive in Europe. America has NAFTA and little import tax from China. On top of oil being extremely cheap, America is doing really well.

You didn't really answer his question.

No, most of PC hardware manufacturing is in Taiwan

Then again you should take into consideration Aussies earn more money than Americans.

I doubt it's VAT. SB and IB used to be priced accordingly to US prices, with GST/VAT and import tax being included. Now most PC stores in Aus is charging $100 more than what it used to be. Its either pc stores being greedy, thinking 5% IPC increase is worth extra $100 or it could be Intel charging more per unit to their supplier.
In Australia, one AUD will buy you $.81 USD. So, on top of transportation fees, and import taxes, you will be paying 20% more in AUD just to even out with USD. Australians do not earn more than Americans in terms of actual purchasing power, I.E how much you can purchase with what you make.

Secondly European countries do have absurdly high import taxes, causing the products to be much more expensive. Again, accounting for currency exchange and transportation fees, it puts the prices up a lot higher.

Here are some charts on purchasing power vs U.S http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purchasing_...ice_levels

Thus things in Australia on average cost on average 46% more than in America. There is also hefty taxes in Australia - corporate tax average is around 24%, compared to U.S 12%, so goods are cheaper to consumers.
