How to make a vanity address!

Vanity address' are bitcoin wallets generated using a brute force to generate billions of wallets until the
software finds a wallet that matches the same prefix as you searched for. These custom prefixes add a cool novelty to your wallet.
A vanity address will look like this:
1GreekhutWw55DtiEwb8vMJXZAzKm1UrVT
Rather than:
1LBVxViEpkR44KuE2W34TbRgoqNsLJVrRd

[img]http://i.ipixls.net/YtgkEcs.png[/img]

So lets start

Step 1:
We will be using the vanitygen program made by samr7 on the bitcointalk forums
Download from the official link found here:
https://github.com/samr7/vanitygen

Step 2:
After downloading you will have multiple different options to choose from. ignore the oclvanitygen or oclvanityminer because those features are not fully setup yet. You will use Vanitygen or vanitygen64 depending if you have a 64 or 32 bit computer.

Step 3:
Next we will open run (Windows ⊞ key + R) and type in "cmd"

Step 4:
We will drag and drop the proper vanitygen onto our command prompt

Step 5:
If you want to view the different options press "Enter" We will only be using the Verbose and Write pattern matches to <file>

After viewing options you can use press the ↑ key an type " -v -o C:\Users\User\Folder\FileName.txt 1Prefix" the more complex your prefix is the longer it will take to generate.

Step 6:
Once done press "Enter" and you will see the information of the generator.
How many keys/ s, how many keys generated, estimated keys generated before a match, and estimated time before the generation. These are all estimated so it could take a week or take 3 seconds depending on luck.

Step 7:
We are done! now we will see at the bottom out public key and private key.
DO NOT SHARE THE PRIVATE KEY OR YOUR BITCOINS CAN BE STOLEN

Open up the .TXT you set the address to be saved in and you will find the wallet info from Command Prompt that can easily be copied and put into a wallet like blockchain.info

There you have it you are now done!

I recommend for someone who is less skilled with bitcoin and the bitcoin core to use Blockchain.info as their client it is very easy just add you private address to your blockchain wallet and its setup. Keep a copy of the private address stored in cold storage in case any complications come up.

Learn how to add to the blockchain.info client overHERE

[img]http://i.ipixls.net/YtgkEcs.png[/img]

Notes:
-Never share your private address with anyone
-Always back up wallets
-Never Delete wallets if it has 0.000000 btc or 1000 btc its always good to have them on record.
-You cannot use characters like "i", "l", "0", "O' in any bitcoin wallet

[img]http://i.ipixls.net/YtgkEcs.png[/img]

Post your generated wallets on the thread!

[img]http://i.ipixls.net/YtgkEcs.png[/img]

I Generated a wallet today, it took me 5 hours with an estimated generation time of 8 hours.
My new vanity wallet corresponding with my HF username
1CanaryrAqbFnVQGxHqEgzxsiiSQBc4YYf

Never Use an online vanity genorator, they are unsafe and may keep you private address! Always use a reputable offline generator like vanity gen

Awesome tutorial, I saw a video in youtube when I tried to make some address like that, but it didn't worked.

I'll try this one soon.

Thanks! Be careful with stuff on youtube, back up findings by searching for reviews and other communities like bitcoin talk.

I recommend using smaller prefixes for testing, my first wallet was a 5 character "1jacob" if your computer is slower and you're hunting for longer prefixes like "1Canary" you can save time by using the option -i which will make the vanitygen search for wallets that only match character not their case, like I got "1cANarY" rather than "1Canary" set it up like this "-v -i -o C:\Users\User\directory\folder\filestoredin.txt"

Some info found on the developers forum post shows what you can expect for generation speeds on different CPU's

Dual-core desktop CPUs, 32-bit mode: 100-250 Kkey/s.
Dual-core desktop CPUs, 64-bit mode: 150-450 Kkey/s.
Quad-core desktop CPUs, 32-bit mode: 200-400 Kkey/s.
Quad-core desktop CPUs, 64-bit mode: 300-750 Kkey/s.

My computer has dual core cpu 64 bit and I average 350-400 Kkeys/s but its not shown in the tutorial because I was generating the 1Canary address at the same time
Nice thread, interesting, thanks for sharing may make myself one in the future!

You should keep in mind that there is a version that supports AMD cards for a much faster KKeys/s rate. It should be included in all vanitygen packs under the prefix "OCL".

I avoided the OCL build for this tutorial because I have been having trouble getting it to run on a couple computers, maybe a bug. However I do know of it. I am going to release another guide soon with more detailed information an pre-made options to choose from that will generate different wallet patterns, the post may also go in depth with the OCL build as well as vanity pools.

Post it here, I like to see interesting wallets! My next wallet will be only characters. I amy look into renting hardware to generate an all uppercase A-Z character wallet

I wonder how fast mine will go with 8 cores at 4.0ghz each?

Try it out and post screenshots 😉 I am curious what someones old mining equipment will pull out, If I find some block eruptors For cheap I will make some nice addresses.
Pretty self explanatory but, may come in handy to someone.

Lol thanks, but there are still people who have no idea what they are doing and it can come in handy for others that may have never heard of a vanity address, I am working on a thread full of premade options to be used in wallet generation and going more in depth on what you can use with vanitygen, because personally I find it a very cool tool

I haven't gone messing around with vanity pools, but OCL vanitygen worked just fine for me. As for the A-Z wallet, there are some letters which can't be used...pretty sure I and O and maybe some more.

Yea I l O 0 are illegal base58 characters. However by A-Z as it is somewhat possible I meant a-z as in all the characters are letters than numbers. I was close in my 1canary address however there is a 4 on the 30th character. A numberless address can be achieved by using this string
Code
.../vanitygen64 -k -r "1[a-zA-Z]{33}"

All uppercase letters only
Code
.../vanitygen64 -k -r "1[A-Z]{33}"

A prefix can be done using
Code
.../vanitygen64 -v -r "1Canary[a-z]{18,27}
"
Kind of a waste of time to use your CPU, I got 1mh/s (i7 4770k), GPU (780ti) got 59mh/s aka almost 60x faster lol.

Im running it on a laptop where most of my work is done on a computer. Depending on your gpu you can try the oclvanitygen you need a OpenCL compatible GPU
http://bitcoinvanitygen.com could also do the job.
