I've been having this problem for months and have no clue to what is causing it. I can browse the web just fine, watch youtube perfectly fine and download torrents perfectly normal too. When I try to connect to any multiplayer servers I get a timed out or cannot connect error. when i load up steam I just get a "cannot connect to steam server" error. I've tried almost everything to fix it and nothing has worked and I am on the verge of just factory resetting my PC to see if it works.

If anyone has any fix please let me know, thanks <3

A default hosts file is fully commented, with # before each line. I find it strange your missing IPv6 loopback as well. (::1 localhost)

I also get the steam error you described when starting the Steam client. But after a second time starting it, it goes through. I'm not sure why it does that exactly, but it only happens when I enroll into Steam beta.

Have you tried joining a server with your AV and firewall disabled? Also what games are you talking about and does this apply to more than one game?

Just factory reset your pc. That hosts file is not stock and considering that you have no clue what it is .. you were not the one to edit it and it's likely that your pc is compromised.
