Selective Quote

I don't know that this would be very easy to do, but it would make our editing for the HFNT a bit faster.

Let's say I'm proofreading a giant news post before it is compiled.

But I only want to quote a small part of it at a time as I proofread and edit each part of it.

It would be nice to be able to select/highlight a section of the post and have only that field rendered as the quote when the quote button is clicked.
Sort of a low priority suggestion but out of curiosity, would this be a very difficult userscript project?

I would like the feature too.

Strongly agree with it, but I think if it was implemented it'd be quite difficult to use... what i do is just

copy paste the text i want and
Quote:

it

Although this would b great.
Yeah, it really isn't that hard to do it as it is, I was just looking for some perspective on what sort of userscript project it would entail. If it wasn't something crazy maybe I could even try making it, I just don't know anything about userscripts really.

So sort of how XenForo's system operates?

You can simply highlight any text in a quote and a little button will pop up saying 'Quote Selected Text' or something along the lines of that.

I'd love to see this implemented though it's not a necessity so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.
bugga told me I'm a cutie

Precisely what I mean, yes. From my brief google adventure I've gathered XenForo is a forum architecture like MyBB or Invision, yes?

Exactly what XenForo is indeed. I juste checked the MyBB 1.8 changelog as Omni planned the upgrade but it's not there.
I'll try to make a userscript for this, can't promise anything though. I'll keep you updated.

I'll start making you a Christmas drawing for my impending gratitude.

This would be a great addition. IMO it's pretty annoying when proofreading and editing. Not sure how this would be implemented though. I usually proofread the whole thing first before going back and then quoting which is just pretty long.

When it's clicked, it's toggled ON.
When ON, user selects portion of post.
User turns off SelectiveQuote.

Once turned off, the post is quoted like normal.
Except the script scans the quoted text and removes everything that wasn't highlighted.

The only issues with this concept would be if you quoted a bullet point [*] and the
  • didn't come before the bullet.

Edit: that's my concept for a userscript.
I just don't know what's possible using JS.

You're right actually, bbcode wouldn't be visible at surface level and that's a new issue in itself. Hmm..

Just a simple "Quote Selected Text" button would be easier.

Indeed. I need to find out a few things again on how HF use exactly HTML to be sure it works on all case.

Looks like I just quoted all this. It's working. (Click to View)
