Host connection failed.

Hey guys.
When I try to connect to a host on cmd on port 25, 26, 465 what have you it gives me the following response: "...could not open connection to the host on port 25: connect failed"
Before you tell me to google this, I've tried and there doesn't seem to be a solution I could find. If you could, please let me know of the cause and hopefully solution to this issue. Or if you have any questions go ahead.
Thanks.
Did you do a port scan? Is the host alive? There are tons of reasons why connection will fail.
Is the host blocking incoming connections?
All deals and exchanges are to be done via HF PM. Unless stated otherwise via a PM, I do not use skype or any other communication services.
The host is alive. Port works fine on any other host, e.g. I can connect to mx1.hotmail.com without a problem. As to the host blocking incoming connections, that maybe possible, although I don't know how to check it other than it denying access, and what would be the solution to that.

WTF? Go read some books about networking then try again.

It seems an interesting subject to get more knowledgeable on and I would if I had the time, but I currently don't, which is why I turned to asking help from other people.

I may have also been unclear in what I said. Which was - the command "telnet mx1.hotmail.com 25" works, while the same command with a different hostname doesn't.
are there any other programs using that port?

Nope, I checked the netstat and nothing seems to be using port 25. So far the issue seems to be with the host, but I can easily be mistaken here.
Are you sure that the HOST has those ports opened ? You can't connect to given port at the host if he isn't allowing it.
Yeah that might be the case. I've tried the common port numbers and nada. If that were the problem what could be the workaround if there is one.
Google nmap, you will get an idea what you have to do.

So I used nmap and ran some scans on the IP. All the ports are open including 25, I tried connecting to all of them but still nothing.
So the host probably has access blocked. Is there a workaround for that, or is this a dead end?
