Saw Kizumonogatari in Theaters!

Update: Just saw part 2 as well, pretty great film! I won't write a long-ish review as most of the art, story and direction are the same as part one. I will say though, part two had a little more ecchi, which was a surprise. Regardless, the film was good, production was good, story was good.

I really have to praise their use of CGI and photo realistic elements, SHAFT have really made it look almost natural to have anime characters on real backgrounds and in CG environments.

Got a sick poster for it too, scanning it and putting it below :-)

Part 1

Like the title says, I went to see the Kizumonogatari movie in theaters recently. Being a fan of the Monogatari series, SHAFT, and Akiyuki Shinbo, my expectations were pretty high. All in all without spoiling anything, the movie delivered exactly what it was supposed to be: a well written, well directed, well animated prequel to the series. And to my luck, the weebs around me didn't smell bad this time around.

//The Art
Art style had some unique choices. SHAFT made use of traditional, CGI, and photo realistic all in one movie. The characters themselves were gorgeous, looking sharper and cleaner than in the series (bigger budgets are nice). I also loved the backgrounds, especially some of the photo realistic BGs:

//Story/Direction
The story was like I said, as expected. For a 60 minute runtime, everything was solid. It even had some pretty laughable moments, which was something I didn't think I'd see. Plot was solid.

All in all, if you're lucky enough to be able to catch a limited screening, definitely go watch it. If not, just hold out for home release and catch it there.

Got a cool poster for going too:

Have you seen it, or do you plan on seeing it? If you have seen it, what did you think about it?
Sadly I have no idea if/when there'll be a screening near me in Australia. I'm waiting for all three movies to be released so I can watch them all at once.

That poster is pretty awesome, you should have gotten me one.
you saw KIZUMONOGATARI in theatres ?

This ain't the Bragging section bro.

I would love to see it when it gets uploaded with subs.
they dont even play these in theatres where i live D: cant wait to see it online
Just so you know (cause this read like you think kizumonogatari was all inclusive) this was just part 1. There will be 3 movies. Having gone to see it as well some of the CG used was jarring when it suddenly went from gorgeous animation to 3D. Overall it ended where I thought it would right before the real meat of the story. If you haven't I would HIGHLY recommend reading the light novel. It has been officially localized and is AMAZING and makes you enjoy the movie so much more. You can find it here: http://smile.amazon.com/KIZUMONOGATARI-W...monogatari

It's super nice, it's like a 2-layer matte and shiny paper. Gonna find somewhere to hang it up :-)

I'm aware it's a three part movie, and it definitely did end when things seemed like they would pick up. It felt like a prologue, or like it was story-building. Personally though, I liked the mixed styles of animation, but that's just me.

Also, I've considered reading the LNs, but I don't really have the time/effort to pick them up and read them all, especially since I'd be picking up and stopping often. I'd rather read them in large chunks, if I do end up reading them. First thing's first though, have to catch up with the anime adaptations, I'm a little behind.
i've watched the first part also in theatres.

at some times i expected a better animation tho but all in all it was surely a great 8/10.

(side note: people in the theatre were really weird tho, and laughing at every little shit. kinda disturbin)

and it kinda ended too soon :(

shit was going down, and then it suddently ended :( (was 1 hour iirc)

i think i wouldnt want to watch part 2 and 3 in theatres again, but surely will watch it once it comes out
Watched part II this week so I figured I'd update the thread! If you haven't seen part I or II, check em' out!
Is this worth watching all parts or just certain one from the few? I'm looking for an anime to watch and reading a bit interested me but I want to hear your recent opinion.

If you mean like certain seasons of the show, I'd just say to check out Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari, and see how you feel. If you didn't like Bakemonogatari, you probably won't like the rest of the seasons.

Never heard of it before, but it looks pretty interesting, I'll keep an eye out for it when its available over here ;)
