Hi Everyone,
I've had a really fun time here on Hack Forums. I've held all kinds of positions here. I've been Staff, Mentor, Group Leader, Writer, and the list goes on. I've helped out many people and made some good friends along the way. This site has offered me the world and I've offered the world back. I give Omni serious kudos for creating something many members such as myself have become addicted to at one point. There have been days where I haven't been able to get off the computer to go do something more productive. It seems this site has a good formula to keep many people here, in itself is a pretty good thing to keep this site going.
The day has come where my I don't have much time for this site anymore. It's a sad fact but true. The day has also come where I've stepped down as Staff on Hack Forums. This wasn't done because I was forced to or anything like that. I simply don't have the time or interest to keep up with Staff duties anymore. There comes a time when you need to take a break from Hack Forums either for the short-term or the long-term, IRL stuff should always come first before anything on here. Before rumors swirl, I'll say this again. I'm stepping away on good terms with the site. I'm grateful for the opportunities this site has given me and hopefully one day I'll have the time to come back to see what this site has turned into.
Throughout my time here I've seen this site change in the hands of the members who inhabit it. This also means that some things may never change with this site. Ever since I can remember, groups have never reached their full potential. With every new group being created, we see fancy graphics and a punchline that gives us hope that we'll see something new and innovative and something "that no group has ever been like before", only to be disappointed when the group goes inactive for some time and then the group owner wants to sell group leadership and membership positions for a group that does absolutely nothing. We still see the same tactics of owners re-branding groups after selling spots and having members fall for a trick of not getting what they paid for. Every group on here is nothing besides a group lounge and a few off-topic threads inside their group sub-forum. Every group is like this. Believe me, I've seen every one of them. DO. NOT. BUY. GROUP. POSITIONS.
I see great potential among members here. Unfortunately some members don't see that potential among themselves. I see members on here get closed daily for doing something stupid, and they definitely know better. At some points I could've seen some of these members be group owners or leaders, heck, even become Mentors or future Staff. But they make stupid decisions, we all do at some point. Some just don't know when to stop, and then they continue to make new accounts after their account gets closed. As I said earlier in this thread IRL stuff should always come first before an internet forum. For some it must be quite hard to go out and socialize or play a sport or find a hobby off of the computer. It's quite sad really. If some members put as much effort into improving their lifestyle as they did with improving their internet profile, I bet this world would be a better place.
In the past few months, we've seen some changes with Mentors. Now, I don't necessarily agree nor disagree with the decisions made to change them, but I believe the whole "Morchid situation" could've been handled differently. After the incident, Mentors lost many privileges such as moving threads and viewing notes on threads and probably a few other things I don't know about since I wasn't Mentor when everything changed. I feel the results of the situation we're harsh on the entire Mentors group. I think the removing the Mentors that were inactive was a good move by Omniscient and is something that should be done regularly. However, the revoking of privileges for the entire group on something that likely won't happen again is something that I feel only hurts the group. Many members of the Mentors group are past Staff and still like to help when they can, the revoking of those privileges only hurts that. Just my 2 cents and observations as a Staff Member. I also feel Mentors haven't done much since the revoking of their privileges.
As a Staff member I've seen just about everything you'd want to see in this site. I won't go into much detail, but you get to see how most things on this site works and everything a Staff member does is exactly how you'd think of it. We enforce rules. You don't like it, take it up with Omni. We see posts that violate policy, we take action whether it be a warning, ban, or just having your posts or thread junked. Most members aren't aware of our site policies, and with that I'll leave you with this: We recommend you take the time to read the HF Help Documents section. The answer to your questions should be contained in there.
I'd like to thank the members of the community who have helped me along my journey here. You know who you are. I know who you are. I plan to stay a member here, but I don't know what my future hold for me. I planned on stepping away from HF around November time, but I became Staff and that was fun for a while. If anyone ever has the chance to advance here such as being a leader of a group or being Mentor or just helping the community out, I advise you to take that opportunity on and see where it takes you. My 5 years of being here have been a blast.
8/23/2016 Update: I still standby what I've said in this thread and after 4 months I can say that most of the stuff is for the most part true. I took a vacation ban and returned from it sometime in June or July and still see the same for the most part.
I bought a leadership position in a group which I know, I said not to in this thread. I still standby the opinion that groups with bought leaderships are not run well, as there isn't much communication between leaders and people seem to get pissed when progress is trying to be made and everyone just tries to do their own thing. Leaders of the group I currently have leadership on can agree with me on that.
I've returned for a few months as I've had nothing better to do during the summer months and can say I still don't have the interest in the site as I did years ago but have still wasted a ton of time doing nothing. Might ask for an account closure after I sell my leadership spot. If you come to see that I'm closed it's because I asked for it.
I appreciate the friends I've made here and wish everyone the best of luck in their future endeavors. It's been real.
Thanks for reading.
