Minimalist's 10000 Post
Feedback Thread

SHOUTOUTS AT THE END!

A little note.
Honestly, I had something more extravagant planned but I lost interest after some events on the forum. Trying not to start on a bad note, it all revolves about the demoralizing things that people can say to piss you off without having ever spoken to you. I originally had over 5000 words typed...now deleted, but I'll start again. BTW, sorry if the formatting looks like ass or if it's hard to follow. I'll probably fix it up if I care enough to.

In the grand scheme of things, my 10000th post shouldn't seem like anything special but I've missed out on making a feedback thread for my other account milestones. I've always wanted to create one.

Confession.
I remember the day, three years ago, when I joined Hack Forums in pursuit of some better discussion after a Minecraft client/griefing forum closed down. With the nature of this board, I tried hard to keep my real-life character distinct from the one I use on Hack Forums. I've been holding off of this but a user has messaged me with a shocking reveal of my true identity.

Let me introduce myself: my name is Steven, I post under the name "Minimalist" and I'm just 16 years old. I'm not 22 and I'm sure that a few of you sleuths have figured that out by now. I do live in Toronto and I attend school in Toronto. I have only driven my car under a G1 license. My posts often do show my immaturity, so if you want to mock me now, be my guest 😊. Some of you may think that I'll just pack my bags and scam users out of thousands of dollars, and I know that my word doesn't mean anything, but I'm too invested in this website to do anything of the sort.

The state of Hack Forums.
You've heard it plenty of times: "Hack Forums is dying," "Omniscient just wants to milk this website for money," etc. Obviously, as a website moves towards a state with more and more marketplace activity, the site owner will want to capitalize on it by selling advertising spots. It's not a bad thing, it just means that Hack Forums is being used as an outlet for many to earn money. The quality of the content has dropped, there isn't as much discussion as there was in the years prior, and it goes without saying that the biggest contributor to this change was the site's own members. You can bitch about this all you want, but there are no changes that a website administrator can make to move back to a discussion-oriented forum.

Efforts to increase participation in community events have failed. Game servers were popular at first, but once the playerbase received on-site awards, traffic drifted away from them and right back onto Hack Forums. Groups that promote gaming have failed. Times change, and it's stupid to dwell in nostalgia for a period that you believed to be better than what's current. I don't doubt that the changes that Omniscient will make will turn us around. We are in a transitional phase - if you want discussion, you need to discuss things.

The state of groups.
People say that the prestige of most groups has deteriorated. I don't disagree. Maybe, as groups lower in pricing, competent group leaders will come to light and maybe we'll actually see a half-decent group for once. Maybe.

Staff feedback.
Omniscient - I think that I've already said a lot about you. You're a great man even if you don't think the same about me, you run a great forum and you're not commended enough for it. Thanks for the opportunities and helping me discover the path that I want to take.

King of Hearts - You've stopped responding to my reports but you still continue to take care of them. You do your job and you do your job well.

Skorp - I don't usually call things cringey but your whole profile screams "cringe." I don't know you well, but I assume that you do your job.

Walt Disney - Probably one of the most controversial promotions. I thought the same way until I saw the work that you put into bettering Hack Forums. Thanks for banning me.

Sam Winchester - I have the same opinion on you as I do with King of Hearts...except that you actually respond. Thanks.

My history on HF.
I joined young and stupid on August 1st, 2013. Similar to most others' reasons for joining Hack Forums, I found this forum through other inexperienced skids looking to revenge my enemies on online games such as Minecraft. I registered and was greeted by all sorts of scary things: hackers, crackers, packets, punks, and posts. I was largely unaware of the good things that the community had for me, so I avoided most areas apart from the News and Happenings section. Looking back, I regret being inactive in this period because of all of the events that I missed. Again, I identified as a 20 year old male for the fear of the malicious users on here getting too far into my offline life. I made up a few stories (though all of my bragging threads remain factual) and continued to make them up, persistent in my decision to post under this identity. As you would have read in the confessions heading, I couldn't keep this going for too long.

My activity increased more and more. I got involved in the CS:GO skins trading scene, and at one point I had an inventory worth a few grand - this was sold off to buyers in the Virtual Game Items section. This marked the begin of my involvement in the marketplace. I started to sell in the marketplace sections and watched as my accounts filled with profits. I started to buy from sellers in marketplace sections, exchanged all sorts of goods, and traded with others just like me. In November of 2015, when the server move happened, I looked to become a larger part of the forum. The increase in effort that was put into my posts carried forward a whole lot of shitposting. Because of this, I received a whole lot of BS from other members who requested that I stop. My outlook changed, and I started to comment with useful information rather than irrelevant rubbish.

Moving a month forwards to more recent times, my discovery of the Computer Overclocking, Customizing, and Hardware section also helped me find things to post and contribute. I think that my name grew quickly but I was wasting a lot of my time. For this reason, I turned to the marketplace and the marketplace became my home. I opened up my currency exchange as well as my middleman service and gained just over a thousand reputation points in under four months. My reputation in both its literal and figurative form has increased - a lot.

Back to helping users, though...as I dealt with more and more users, I also helped with more and more users' problems. I've been helping in the RANF, Suggestions and Ideas, and Ub3r Support sections (in the guise of your typical minimod 😵). Some regrets there.

The end.
That brings me to the end of this feedback thread. Over the years, I've met users as they came and went. I still don't have any long-lasting friendships with any users on here. I'll love this community in whatever state it's in - I'll love the trolls, the assholes and the friendly users. Hack Forums may have had some flaws but they've faded away over the years, gone with the users who've let. It saddens me to know that Hack Forums will close one day, but at least it's thriving right now. Thanks for the good times, and here's to some more.

Shoutouts.
I don't want individuals to feel like they're not important to me so I'll make all of you feel like you're not important to me. No more shoutouts.

B‍o‍s‍t‍o‍n - I see you around and you're usually pretty helpful.
SUSPENDED™ - I often see you around. Can't really put a finger on what you have done though :I
Rita Ora ❤️ - Like all others who have women in their avatars, I think very low of you.
Øtto - First encounter with you was on HackerCraft, your name still isn't as nice as mine but it's just OK.
❤️ rooĸιe ❤️ - Probably a multi.
Akzius - We're in the same Skype group chats and you're a nice guy, but we've never really connected.

Purities - User types like a hooligan but he does put food on my plate.
YayHar - Your name pisses me off >:(
52 - Quit it with your eBook 😝. Not a bad user, have dealt with him before.
TryAgain - You're all over the place, helping in every section possible. Keep it up.
The J0ker - Group whore.
V For Vendetta. - I have more rep than you now, what?! Very very friendly user, bought Ub3r for you years back and you've still not been closed or banned. That's a record.
Wuss - Change your damn avatar.
Squa - Change your damn avatar.
Wicket - Change your damn avatar.
Rikk‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌a - You have a server with 128GB of RAM that you use to download literal terabytes of anime. That says a lot about you.
Krave - You run the most non-money-focused on Hack Forums and you treat your group members like family. Thanks for being a part of the solution 👍
Silicon Valley - The things that you've done to help out the marketplace, from the now defunct BTCE to HFAlert, have definitely made some difference.
Aggron - You still owe me $10 for solving that maze.
Hey man nice shirt - What can I say? Your posts show your age and you're a pretty friendly kid. Keep it up.
Roytoy - You tried to bargain that last $25 but you couldn't do it. You just couldn't do it.
Norous - Hey, did you know that I was the first to use an avatar like that? Mindfucked a bunch of users for the time that I was wearing it.
- Sam - - Don't leave Hack Forums. At least tell me before you do.
Pittinger - I think that I messaged you to sell an AGC but you ignored me :C

Trick2G - Who are you?
Regan - Calm down, Regan.
Stellar - Who are you?
Sevn Alias - I think that you're pretty sketchy lol. I'm no Messiah of Hack Forums, but you could step up your game by staying out of the activities that I'm talking about.

Ted™ - Awwwwww.
Rabies¥ - You're never getting that $1 back, and I'm never betting on bustabit ever again.

Regulus - February 2016. 😑

I want to know what you think of me, Kappa :)
You remind me of me back in 2012. I bet Omni would agree.
