Hi. I am attempting to sell my Note 3 & Someone was asking for the IMEI number. Apprently on google this has mixed responses from being verified of not stolen property or a bad thing of someone cloning your phone.
I wanted to get a opinion from HF is it safe to give this number out?
I don't think it's safe to give out your IMEI due to the possibility of it being cloned. If you're selling on a platform that offers buyer protection (such as PayPal), mention that to them and say they can refund if the item isn't as described.
Thats what i was thinking. Thanks for your help.
But with IMEI you can also checked if the phone was stole before. This is propably someone asked for it.
It's normal to ask for the IMEI number, a lot of people are selling stolen phones, I don't think he'll do anything with it.

I wouldn't buy a phone online unless i could check the IMEI number

I could litteraly show proof of purchase. I bought the phone directly from the tmobile website when I first started using their service. I have the original box and manuals etc.

At most, someone could locally spoof an IMEI to a phone app, but because of modern methods, you also need other device specific ID's to do anything even usable. Even then, it wouldn't be able to do anything because of provider protocols.
So yes, you can give the number out.
No visible ID in settings >> general >> about, can be used against you.
Ah yolo I guess. Tryna sell it so I can fix my car.

There are plenty of people who use them to program into their blacklisted phone so they can use it again, I've sold more than a few on the deepweb markets.

You shouldn't speak about things you have no expertise on.
You'd be suprised what can still be done even on modern phones.
Okay okay. No arguing here. Just asked a simple question & I got my answer thank you all.
Word of advice tron, sometimes it best to move on than press it.
