Cisco Networking Fundamentals Helpdesk

I searched alot on hack forums but found very few threads related to cisco networks. So here i'm making a thread on Cisco Networking Fundamentals. What's in here for newbies? Newbies can post their questions related to networking and have their queries resolved. What's in here for the network engineers? Well as a network engineer, everyday you learn something new. You can refresh your knowledge here. So enough talk. Let's come to business.

Everybody as a newbie who wants to start a career in IT has two questions.

1. Where do i start?

2. Where do i proceed from there on?

Most of them, get a start but are stuck. They don't have the visibility to proceed further. E.g. If i have an Comptia A+ certification. What do i do next? Can i go for N+? Can i go for CCNA? Yes, you can.

Comptia has a Comptia certification roadmap to guide you. Below is link.

https://certification.comptia.org/docs/d...f?sfvrsn=2

I would highly recommend that you take a good look at it. As it goes from novice to expert industry level certifications. It helped me in choosing my career path and hope that it helps you too.

Also don't forget to post your cisco networking related questions here. 🤝

As per my understanding, you're connected to the internet via a wireless router that is mostly used in home networks. So when internet connection goes off. Try to verify few things.

1. This may sound silly but make sure the router is powered on and cable is properly plugged in.
2. If router is powered on. Try to ping your default gateway.
3. If ping succeeds, this means there is no issue in reaching the gateway.
4. If ping fails, this means that your PC and router might not be on same subnet. It's a compulsion for them to be on same subnet.
5. After you have verified your connectivity with default gateway, goto the routers login page to verify the router is connected to internet via dhcp or statically.
6. If router is connected to internet but you longer have an internet connection. Disconnect the router from router's login page and try to reconnect it. If ip is statically assigned verify the ip, subnet mask and default gateway. Also make sure the statically defined ip is not as same as ip leased by dhcp. If this is the case, there might be ip conflict.
7. If router is not connected to internet verify your router settings. Compare it with when router was working fine. Do you see any changes in the settings or do you see all fields set to blank?
8. If you see all fields blank. Your router was reset. You need to configure router setup. If any changes in settings try to manually change them.
9. If there is frequent disconnection, try to verify in your locality are you the only one or other people also facing the same issue.
10. If you are the only one facing the issue and everytime your router go back to default settings. There might be a compatibility issue. Yes, i have seen different SP's prefer different router models (Here i'm talking about SOHO routers). Some SP are comfortable with Cisco while other's might prefer Netgear or DLink.
11. If in your locality some of them are facing the issue. Then it's not your router's problem. It might be ISP is facing issues. Call them up, ask for any issue in the network. If these are frequent, you might even opt to change ISP as you are paying loads of money for the internet.

Note - The above scenarios are applicable only for SOHO networks.

Hope this might help you, if not shoot me a PM.👍
