Shared hosting has MySQL limit

Hi everyone. My shared hosting has MySQL limit – 1GB and they cut me down. The forum I just set up, it was empty (no users). Just a few threads, and categories. Is that normal to take that much MySQL space, because for instance one Wordpress website takes about 50MB.

And what other alternative do I have to run a forum?
Should I use phpBB or it's heavy as the IPB. Thanks a lot. I would really appreciate any help or answers.

Your forum shouldn't take up anywhere near 1GB of MySQL space until it reaches a point where you would change web hosting companies or plans anyways. I can't recall the exact numbers, but depending on software and how long each average post is, you'd be looking at a ton of posts before it reaches that amount.

The lighter the software the less initial load (and space) each post, user, and topic will take up. IPB tends to be heavy on the database however software like Flarum/MyBB/PunBB tend to be really light.
I had installed IPB plus Gallery and Blog. About twenty categories, or forums, don't know how it's called exactly. And no more than 10 threads with less photos than 10.

That's really weird. I had to archive it and after that remove it from the server. Space immediately dropped 850 megabytes.
I suggest switching to MyBB. It has relatively small DB sizes from what I've seen, and won't even go near your 1gb limit till you have a bigger forum. Though, by then you should switch to a VPS and host yourself.

Shared hosting is almost never a good idea.
I've purchased a good phpBB theme. But I don't want to risk it. VPS around here is too expensive. Cheaper to get my own server, if you ask me. Should I go with MyBB instead?
I doubt a empty forum will take up 1GB database space. Are you sure it is about MySQL space or something like memory limit ?
Yeah. The thing you are talking about is PHYSICAL MEMORY USAGE, which is 0/1024 MB almost all of the time (not much traffic now). Jumps to 300 from time to time.

A quote from my provider's website.

Quote:The maximum size of the database which may be located in any hosting plans offered by us is 1 GB.

When using the virtual server, dedicated server and Cloud, there are no set parameter for maximum database size.

Quick update. I just called the support and spoke with them on the phone. They have 150GB limit on all databases, but 1GB limit for one database. Let's say I can have 150 databases in total, but each one of them no more than 1GB of size.

That's pretty frustrating. They VPS prices are pretty high to my standarts. I would get a decent Dell server for the VPS price I would pay in 6 months only. It's not worth it. So either a server, or another forum. But if I set another forum and it goes beyond this 1GB, doesn't look good for me.

Plus they have 1GB limit on the memory size and that's a huge bottleneck also if I have lots of visitors at once.
Just get like a cheap 10 dollar a month vps. Shared 99 cent hosting is not the way to go.
