*Note: At the time I am creating this I have yet to watch S2*

In this day and age where many older audiences seek to find the most gruesome anime full of utter shock and gore yet retain a decent plot... this anime struggles to thrive in this market. Most often with these anime the central focus of mutilation, horror, and depression overshadows the characteristics that creates genuinely good anime. This is most evident in the story; while bearing the fruit of potential, it was plucked before the ripening. A show that centers on a fast pace, action-based plot was presented as a slow, exposition filled story with multiple flashbacks, several plot holes, and a conspiracy subplot that wasn't fully dived into. This was also another anime that set itself up for an inconclusive, "must wait for S2" type ending.

In terms of characters, there is little development truly made, and any information into such potential development was only delivered via flashbacks upon flashbacks. There were interesting pairs and relationships occurring but the anime seemed to ignore them for the sake of the story progression. Sound was decent however nothing noteworthy.

However, despite the negativity I have stated so far, I will give praise for the fight scenes and animation, which ultimately was the source of any sort of real entertainment. The CGI was far from the best Spoiler (Click to View) especially for the cockroaches , however the action was done in a decent manner that was somewhat enjoyable and the amount of gore could please such the audience that it was catered to. However, these scenes were few in comparison to the dragged out anime. In conclusion, it was not necessarily the worst anime but it lacked so many qualities that were noticeable. I found it to be a decent watch, however I leave it up to your discretion whether to watch or not.

The series is mediocre, season one was kind of a nuisance seeing as apart from the first two episodes or so, the rest only made up the first 24 hours of their time on Mars. Season two was better as it covered a longer time period, thus more things going on. Whilst it is meh, I still enjoy it quite a bit, the violence is rather humorous, sadly however, season 2 got toned down a lot compared to season 1.
