Java

Simple java project suggestions?

Well,I recently started coding with Java and its going kinda well. I use youtube,lynda,pluralsight to learn things. Its been only two weeks and I have learned much more than I expected.

I always read/watch tutorials follow them and then I always try to code that program on my own. I feel like my project planning, method handing is not that good because all I do is following tutor. I need some beginner projects to code on my own. I have basic knowledge up to OOP concepts for now. Please post if you know any.
Thanks in advance. 👍
Bot of some kind, Simple games, Simple multiplayer games, chat rooms.
Anything that requires multi threading is good.

If you want something simpler, then maybe program that looks for file duplicates on your computer, and notices you about them.
No games no chatrooms , try practicing java collections for example build a shopping cart with all futures like add delete find update remove all print and stuff like that ..
practice java generics , interfaces and inheritance ..

Try building project with composition and inheritance ..

First of all, Thank you both your reply.
To be honest, I haven't learned about generics, collections and things.Am I too early to looking for projects?

Then it's time to do a project where you should use generics. It's the best way to learn. If you're stuck, just look up the problem online.
Hey I have a signature.

Collections and generics are really usefull , in real world in spring for example ( i am learning it now ) you would almost never use regular arrays , but you need to learn them before you start with collections and generics

i used to watch this tut and it really helped me , it is free i think:

I can't even begin to explain how false this is lol. Arrays are present in every single program, and are used to back a bunch of collection types.
Have you learned about interfaces, abstract and concrete classes, write in files or threads ?
Depends on if you want to do desktop apps in future of enterprise/webapps ? -
If you want to do webapps, try a simple shopping cart. if you want to do desktop apps, try some thing like a simple todo app.

Sure :P

Code
public static void main(String[] args) {

}
Try using a library of some sort to create something useful to you.

When I was a beginner I used JSoup to create a simple scraper.

See what you did there. 😏

But seriously, of course arrays are used in every program. Even if you just use some wrapper class, als Stealth mentioned, you're still using arrays.

I was trying to send you a PM, but then I noticed I need > 24 posts.
I am actually learning Java myself right now. I think a great way to learn java is to exchange assignments. I have some really nice assignments for you to try out. In my Programming class we discuss them and I think they can be really useful. I can send them to you and maybe we can look at each other codes?

Im in the same position as you, just trying to learn Java and looking for a great way to do that. I will contact you when I get enough PM. (don't know how long that will take :p)
