Andromeda: Chrome OS and Android Merged Together
Rumors continue to surface regarding Google products as of late, which should not come as a surprise given that their big event is coming up next Tuesday. That said, one of the biggest rumors and potentially the most exciting are the details revolving around a completely new, hybrid operating system for devices, dubbed Andromeda. Reportedly, Google is attempting to fold Chrome OS (the OS it developed to power Chromebooks) into Android (the OS it developed for Android mobile devices, including Nexus devices). Engineers at the Mountain View, CA-based company have reportedly been trying to combine the two systems over the past three years, with the goal of unveiling a single, unified operating system by 2017.
Google's Latest Phone Set to Debut
Next Tuesday is going to be a very big day for Google. The company is hosting an event in San Francisco to presumably announce its new Pixel and Pixel XL Android phones that could ultimately replace the Nexus brand. The Pixel and Pixel XL will be similar, except for their size. The Pixel will have a 5-inch display, while the Pixel Xl will have a 5.5-inch display. Both phones will have Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel cameras, fingerprint scanners, and great battery power. Based on the images that have leaked, both phones will have sleek aluminum and glass designs.
Streaming Rivals Spotify and SoundCloud Rumored to Merge
Spotify is still the most popular subscription-based music streaming service with 40 million paying listeners, but Apple Music has been gaining momentum as well. In an effort to better compete against Apple Music and other music streaming services, Spotify may be considering acquiring SoundCloud. Reportedly, Spotify and SoundCloud are in "advanced acquisition talks". The two companies have apparently considered a similar deal twice already but never made it very far in negotiations. It is unclear how much Spotify would pay, though SoundCloud was most recently valued at $700 million before raising $100 million from investors in June.
Playstation Experience 2016 Date and Details Revealed
Sony has now officially announced the date and revealed some details for this year's PlayStation Experience event. As rumored, the exposition is now heading to Anaheim, California and will be held on December 3 and 4 at the Anaheim Convention Center. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony explained that the event will start with a "PlayStation Showcase" at 10 AM PT on Saturday, December 3. Judging by the title, this appears to be the main, E3-style keynote address. You can watch the show's announcement video here. Following the address, attendees will be able to go hands-on with the PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR devices, which will have already launched to the public by time the PlayStation Experience comes around. PS4 Pro is released in November after the PlayStation VR comes out in October. There will also be developer panels and merchandise booths at this year's PlayStation Experience. Additionally, the Capcom Cup Street Fighter V competitive gaming tournament will again be featured at PlayStation Experience. The finals will be held on Saturday at 6 PM PT, where players will compete for a share of $250,000 and the title of Street Fighter V world champion! Sony announced that it will share "lots more" information about the event in upcoming weeks -- including details on the games that will be playable at the show. Despite being a relatively new exposition, PlayStation Experience has revealed some big news in the past including details and trailers for Uncharted 4, Rez Infinite, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Street Fighter V, and Nioh. Ticket information can be found here.
Mortal Kombat XL Balance Patch
Mortal Kombat XL is finally hitting PC soon and it will be accompanied with a balance patch for all platforms. Both the patch and the PC version arrive on Tuesday, October 4. Ed Boon released a brief statement on Twitter. As usual, the balance patch and release with be preceded by a livestream where greater details will be provided. The original PC version of Mortal Kombat X was a bit rough at launch. NetherRealm Studios released a patch that promised players "huge improvements" and bring the PC version to parity with the console versions. However, it ended up wiping players' save data and not much else. Initially, Mortal Kombat XL wasn't going to coming to PC, but Boon changed his mind and decided to bring it over. Mortal Kombat X on consoles received a score of 8/10 in GameSpot's review. Critic Peter Brown said, "Mortal Kombat X's lesser elements exist outside the most important part of the game: the fighting. A great roster with a wide range of diverse fighting styles and variations gives you plenty to play around with, and the new fighting mechanics add the right amount of depth to nudge Mortal Kombat X ever higher on the list of respectable fighting games." Mortal Kombat XL will hopefully mend the problems that Mortal Kombat X had. Stay tuned for more details!
Final Fantasy 15 Art Director Leaves After 24 Years
Yusuke Naora, a veteran Square Enix art director, announced on Twitter that his last day with the developer of Final Fantasy 15 was Friday, September 30. Naora worked on multiple Final Fantasy projects, dating back to Final Fantasy 6 in 1994, for which he was the field graphic designer. Check out this image created by the editor of the Final Fantasy news site, Nova Crystallis. Most recently, Naora was the art director for Final Fantasy XV, which, after its latest delay, is scheduled to come out in late November. Naora's work is some of the best in the gaming industry and his presence will be heavily felt. Fortunately, however, it has been reported that he won't be retiring anytime soon. Sources claim that Naora is shifting to an independent role that will see him continuing to work with Square Enix on illustrations and designs. The highly anticipated Final Fantasy XV launches on November 29 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The more powerful PS4 Pro will be released in November as well and Final Fantasy XV is among the games that will be enhanced for the system.
Eastern European Gang Claims Responsibility For Yahoo Breach
The Yahoo breach of over 500 million users' data is the largest in recent times. The 2014 breach was carried out by a criminal gang from Eastern Europe, not a state-sponsored group like Yahoo claims, according to a cybersecurity firm. The group, under the name "Group E," sold the stolen data to at least three clients--including one state-sponsored actor. Arizona-based security firm, InfoArmor, reports, "Yahoo was compromised in 2014 by a group of professional blackhats who were hired to compromise customer databases from a variety of different targeted organizations." It's not known why Yahoo didn't reveal the size of the breach for almost two years. According to the same firm, the hackers were also linked to other high-profile breaches including LinkedIn, Tumblr, and MySpace. >>Source

iOS 10 Backups Are Easier to Crack, but Apple Promises to Fix the Security Flaw
A forensic researcher reports iOS backups are easier to crack, as the protection is 2,500 weaker than in iOS 9. Apple has promised to roll out a patch for the flaw. The security flaw is caused by iOS 10 skipping some security checks when backing up files. The issue effects local backups to a computer made through iTunes, which are now more susceptible to password-cracking tools. >>Source
