Another unknown and potentially underrated anime, Memories comes from the same mind behind the film Akira. It a compilation of 3 OVAs, each with a different intent when viewed. The first ep, and probably the favorite both myself and very likely anyone who watches all 3, will find themselves exposed to an unusual sci-fi thriller out in space. It is also the only short of the 3 OVAs that truly has any connotation with the compilation's title of "Memories."
The second episode attempts to indulge in a humorous attempt at the audience. It never reaches a rofl reaction, but rather a slight humor at the ignorance and awkwardness revolving around the MC. The third ep is the shortest of the 3, however unlike the previous episode it creates a heavy atmosphere of socio-political criticism, and primarily war. It also employs a different art style than the first two eps and makes exceptional use of steam-punk influences.
For the enjoyment factor, you will not be disappointed, especially if you choose only to watch the first episode. The other two have their merits as well, but they pale in comparison to the first. The music and art is well done, with a wide range of composers adding their talents and the combined efforts of Madhouse and Studio 4°C. I would highly recommend this anime for anyone who has 2 or so hours to kill and would like a nice anime gem to enjoy ;)
