Interview - xadamxk
bοxxy: Hello, and welcome to the 328th edition of the HF News! Would you like to give any shoutouts before we begin?
xadamxk: Yeah all of my closed friends - Tibit, Snorlax, Clark, Harlem, Sir, Tommy, Hash G, and Steveyyy.
bοxxy: I've noticed an impressive amount of userscripts you've made lately. What motivates you to put so much time into these, and which one(s) are you most proud of?
xadamxk: Yeah, I have cranked out a decent amount of userscripts over Christmas break. I've always liked the idea of userscripts and being able to alter the site and improve your user experience. As far as my favorite or most successful scripts, I think Quick Rep is up there. It was original and I got several ideas from the community for it.
bοxxy: Very impressive indeed. So tell me about xadamxk. Who is xadamxk?
xadamxk: I've been on the forums for several years now and I consider myself pretty inactive compared to my prime. I usually browse the lounge, RANF, mobile sections, and the web browser section for userscripts. Right now I'm just a normal college student, I've got a GF, a cat, and I hang out with friends on the weekend.
bοxxy: Living the college dream huh? What are you studying for in college(besides beer pong, which does not count as a major)?
xadamxk: Haha yeah, life is pretty good right now. I'm going into my Senior year at the university studying Computer Science.
bοxxy: Interesting. Has your time here on Hack Forums been beneficial to your knowledge with computers/your studies? What kinds of things have you learned here, if any?
xadamxk: HF was actually the reason I decided to go with CS over an engineering degree. Since that decision, I've had resources that other CS students could only dream of. I've had a number of members assist me over team viewer with programming assignments, members tutor me in discrete math/algorithms, and even used a tutorial on HF to help with an assignment. I've learned a lot from HF, but the most important thing I have learned that many members do not realize is that HF is a very valuable resource to have when in school. There are thousands of members on HF and each of them offers something to the site. As part of the community, you should use the resources that HF has to offer.
bοxxy: Great Response, thank you for that. You've been on HF for quite some time now, seeing your join date in 2011 coming up on 6 years now in April(Congrats by the way.) What made you initially join Hack Forums, and do you think HF has gotten better, worse, or not much change in terms of quality/experience?
xadamxk: I joined because one of my good friends told me about the site. Overall, HF has improved. There are more features, there are more moderators, and there is a wider variety of members. I miss some of the old member base and the way things were years ago, but all in all, things have improved.
bοxxy: Ah, I see. Just a few more questions if you don't mind before we wrap this one up. I want to ask you about groups. What official groups here on Hack Forums have you been in? Any favorites?
xadamxk: I mind damnit. At one time or another I've been in most private groups. The Empire, The Alliance, The Brotherhood, and (at the time) The Alliance were my favorites. Groups have changed a lot over the years, I'm hoping the pick back up with the recent group changes.
bοxxy: Groups have definitely changed, that's for certain. Alright, last ones I promise. What are your most active and/or favorite sections we have here on Hack Forums, and do you think Hack Forums could use another specific section?(Ex. Car Section is favored by many but denied)
xadamxk: I mostly browse in the Lounge, RANF, iOS section, Web Browsers (Userscripts), and private groups. As far as additional sections, I know a car section has been one of the most popular section suggestions. I personally do not think HF has the kind of activity to warrant a new section, but time will tell I guess. I know there is a user group that is focused on that topic now, so maybe that will help.
bοxxy: Definitely. Well, that'll be all for today. Anything else you would like to add?
xadamxk: nah that'll be good I guess! thanks noob

US Withdraws from Trans-Pacific Trade Deal
Following a campaign promise, Donald Trump signed an executive order that withdrew the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The deal was intended to link 12 nations to a complex set of trade rules. This move is part of Trump’s “America First” stance, which pushes for a more aggressive stance against foreign competitors. The TPP was former President Barack Obama’s signature trade deal. >>Source
Mexicans Launch Boycotts Against US Companies
In a method of protest against the United States’ new administration, Mexicans are planning to boycott American products. The boycott was spurred by Trump’s push for a border wall, deportations, and new trade deals. This boycott follows the Mexican president’s cancellation of a meeting between the two nations. Mexico has an economy that is only one-tenth the size of the US, but the nation looks as if it will not go down without a fight. Polls in Mexico show that the president of the United States has a 3% favorability rating among Mexican citizens. >>Source
New Zealand and Denmark Declared the “Least Corrupt” Countries in the World
Transparency International, a Berlin-based anti-corruption organization, has released its “Corruption Perception Index” for the year of 2016. There are 176 countries listed in the index, and both Denmark and New Zealand hold the highest ranks. Since the mid-1990s, when this annual list started, New Zealand has always ranked very high in the list. Nordic countries, such as Denmark, generally place high in the rankings as well. Overall, sixty-nine percent of the countries listed in the index scored less than a 50, where 0 is considered to be extremely corrupt, and 100 is considered “very clean.” Both Denmark and New Zealand received a score of 90. Transparency International uses World Bank data, the World Economic Forum, and other institutions to form their rankings. >>Source

3D TV Meets its Demise
What was once thought to be the future of television and media, 3D televisions are finally meeting their demise with an announcement from Sony and LG - 3D TV's biggest manufacturers, stating that they will no longer be produced. Along with this, 3D capability will no longer be offered in their newer televisions either. Tim Alessi, LG's director of new product development, stated that the feature was never fully embraced, and just not something many consumers factored in when purchasing a new TV. Instead, he claims LG will focus on other features consumers are looking for. The announcement seems late to many, as 3D content is few and far between, and most 3D channels have been off the air for years, including DirecTV, ESPN, Discovery, and other major channels. The focus away from clunky glasses and headaches is seen as a step in the right direction from both manufacturers and customers everywhere.
Tesla Launches World's Biggest Power Station
Boasting a massive 80 MWh, Tesla has created what is the world's largest power station in Southern California, in association with Southern California Edison. Dubbed the Powerpack Station, the facility is capable of powering a whopping 2,500 households or more for a day. The project makes use of new a new inverter created by Tesla themselves, that increases power density and efficiency of the battery packs in the system. The system will be used to power homes when electricity is in high demand in the area, and will charge when electricity is not in high demand, typically at odd hours of the day. This results in their partner, Southern California Edison (SCE), having to depend less and less on natural gas plants for extra energy when it is needed. The Powerpack Station will be used in conjunction with SCE's traditional grid which s estimated to cover over 15 million people.
Tinker Board: Asus' Answer to the Raspberry Pi
Asus is getting into the niche mini computer, a field dominated by devices such as the Arduino and the Raspberry Pi, with an answer of their own: the Tinker Board. Despite it being a bit pricier than the Pi at $68 USD, the Tinker Board features many slight upgrades over the Pi. Enthusiasts will be delighted to see Asus' device features double the RAM of the Raspberry Pi 3B, gigabit LAN, a 1.8 GHz quad-cure processor, and some other neat upgrades over other devices. Thanks to the GPU, RAM, and a 2.0 HDMI port, the Tinker Board has access to 4K video and H.264/H.265 video encoding, making it great for anyone looking for a 4K capable media center. To achieve this, consumers could use Debian Linux, which is also supported by the Tinker Board and could be a key selling point for prospective buyers.

Over 70% of Washington, D.C. Public CTV System Hacked
A few days before Donald Trump's inauguration, over 70 percent of CCTV storage systems in Washington D.C. were hacked. It appears to be ransomware, which is the easiest way for a hacker to get money without much labor. 123 out of the 187 federal video recorders were infected, and each control between one and four public security cameras in D.C. The system was then offline from January 12th until the 15th. Officials took the systems offline, removed the malware, and restored them to working order. No ransoms were paid. >>Source
WikiLeaks Asks Hackers to Leak Trump's Tax Returns
After President Donald Trump went back on numerous promises to release his tax returns, WikiLeaks has asked people to get their hands on them and anonymously send them into WikiLeaks. The call-to-action came after Kellyanne Conway, one of Trump's senior advisers, told ABC's This Week, "The White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns. We litigated this all through the election." A petition opened on the day of his inauguration which asks that Trump release his full tax returns. It got 262,131 signatures--out of only a needed 100,000. >>Source
It's Now Illegal to Bypass China's Firewall with a VPN
China imposes a strict censorship on its citizens with what's called the Great Firewall of China. The system censors the internet and denies citizens access to certain foreign websites. The firewall bans 171 out of the 1000 top websites online--some of which are Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, and Tumblr. China recently announced a shutdown of VPNs across the country, making it even harder to bypass the filter. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, has introduced an act that makes running local VPN services illegal without a license from the government. This renders VPN services in the country with over 730 million users now illegal. >>Source
