I'm not really sure what it's called specifically or even where to start. I want to create a taskbar-esque type application for my own personal use and I have no idea where to start on something like this. I know you'd have to create your own control but do you use panels? TabControl? I'm new to creating my own controls, so I just drew a quick representation of what I meant down below. Any helpful tips or links would be greatly appreciated. I tried googling but was unable to find much on the subject.

Do u want to use it directly on the desktop? Layered forms will be useful there is a tut by blackcap search it. If not then a simple control will suffice. You just need to take care of hit-testing(and painting too :D ).
