RewriteRule ^a-page(.*)$ /another-page/$1 [R=301,NC,L]

This is in .htaccess. A friend said it redirected for him at one point but added an EXTRA / at the end, but now not working at all.

Any ideas?

it works for me, did you forget to enable rewriting?
