Recent Downtime
Recently Hack Forums has been down for quite some time.Omniscient is advising that members should not panic at all and states that, "These aren't attacks or any drama. Just regular server crap." The cause of these random moments of the site going on and offline is either done by the NGINX or Hack Forums PHP CGI as Omni states. >>Source

Air Conditioning Without Energy
Scientists have recently created a new material that may not only work to cool your house, but also increase the lifetime and efficiency of today's solar panels. Similar to the way a dark colored shirt will absorb much more heat than a light colored shirt, scientists engineered a material that serves to completely reflect any sort of radiation from the sun, allowing whatever is on the other side of the material to cool. Only about the size of typical aluminum foil and with the slight transparency of plastic, tests showed that this material blocks about 96% of all sunlight and is extremely cost-effective to produce on a mass scale. This material could help cool plants, heavy machinery and maybe be the new standard of insulation to cool your homes. >>Source

Is Gum The Reason Your Sick?
Researchers at the Binghamton University have conducted a series of tests on gum to show whether or not there are adverse effects for the chronic consumption of gum as well as other common foods and candies that contain titanium oxide. Tests showed that "acute exposures did not have much effect, but chronic exposure diminished the absorptive porojections on the surface of intestinal cells". What this means is the barrier in your intestines are weakend to the point of causing your body difficulty in absorbing common nutrients essential to your health such as iron, zinc, fatty acids and more. Not only did it show a decrease in absorption, but also increased inflammatory signals throughout the body. More tests are still being done to learn more of the long term effect it has on our health. >>Source

New Battery Could Run Over a Decade
With lithium ion batteries being the current standard for production batteries, scientists at Harvard may have realized a new flow battery to not only increase the battery output, but that only loses one percent of its capacity per 1000 cycles. "Lithium ion batteries don't even survive 1000 complete charge/discharge cycles". This new means of technology portrays significant improvements in production costing less than $100 per kilowatt-hour. By understanding what was happening to the degradation of batteries at the molecular level, scientiests were able to pinpoint Ferrocene as the culprit. Previously able to store charge, but insoluble -- scientists managed to functionalize Ferrocene molecules and turn it into a "highly soluble one that could be cycled stably". >>Source

Samsung's Lee Jae-yong Taken Into Custody on Bribery Charges
The vice chairman of Samsung, Lee Jae-yong was taken into custody Friday morning on charges of bribery, perjury, hiding assets overseas, and perjury. Lee's arrest comes as part of an investigation into corruption and influence-peddling that caused Park Geun-hye, the former president of South Korea, to be impeached. He is accused of paying $36 million in bribes to Parks' secretive confidante, Choi Soon-sil, in return for political favors. Those are alleged to include government support for a merger of two Samsung affiliates in 2015 that helped Lee inherit corporate control from his incapacitated father, Lee Kun-hee, the chairman.

Youtube's Unskippable 30-Second Ads Will Soon Be a Thing of the Past
YouTube's annoying, unskippable half-minute advertisements are due to become a thing of the past. The Google-owned video service revealed Friday that beginning in 2018 brands will not be able to buy the 30-second ad format instead offering other lengths of unskippable pre-roll ads like 20-second promos and 6-second bumper ads. Google explained that its aim is to provide a better advertising experience for online users. "As part of that, we've decided to stop supporting 30-second unskippable ads as of 2018 and focus instead on formats that work well for both users and advertisers."

Unreal Engine 4.15 Released With Native Nintendo Switch Support
Last year, Unreal Engine announced that it had partnered with Nintendo "to help Unreal Engine 4 developers bring their games to Nintendo Switch." The Unreal Engine 4.15 was released Saturday by Epic Games, which officially adds native support for Nintendo's upcoming new platform, making it easier for developers to port games to the system. The update allows developers to develop for the Nintendo Switch "as experimental as part of the platform improvement". Epic Games writes that Switch support is considered experimental for now, but the developer aims to offer support "in a shippable state" with the next engine release.

Yahoo Hacked Once Again
Yahoo have done it again and successfully detected that their systems were compromised from another attack. It was only last year that Yahoo released information regarding a breach which happened in 2013, which compromised one billion user accounts. The recent attack happened by hackers that used a method which forged cookies to log accounts without passwords. The affect that this attack has on its users is still unknown. Using software that was stolen from Yahoo's internal systems, the flaw allowed state-sponsored attackers to use a forged cookie to gain access to Yahoo account without passwords.

JavaScript-based ASLR bypass attack simplifies browser exploits
A new attack has been revised by security researchers that can bypass one of the main exploit mitigations in browsers: address space layout randomisation (ASLR). As this JavaScript-based security flaw uses the functionality of how modern processors cache memory, meaning it's a difficult bug to fix as it's not software related. ASLR is present in all major operating systems; it makes vulnerabilities such as buffer overflows more difficult to exploit. Applications such as browsers take massive advantage of the feature.

Donald Trump’s Website Hacked
A hacker claiming to be from Iraq naming themselves 'Pro_Mast3r' claims responsibility of hacking US President Donald Trump's website. The server that seemed to have been affected was server2.donaldjtrump.com, which supposedly sat behind CloudFlare's content management and security platform. The certificate for the server does seem legitimate, but the page itself displayed a black background with a man wearing a fedora. This defacement took place on Sunday. The identity of the hacker currently remains unknown, although the website's source code at the time contained no malicious code, just a link to JavaScript on a now-nonexistent Google Code account that is under the name of 'masterendi'.

Nintendo Switch Digital Game File Sizes Revealed
For those unfamiliar with the DS devices that Nintendo produce, the data is saved on an SD card. Gamers can add a bigger one for more size, or keep the stock one that comes with the DS device. With the introduction of the Switch, the storage system will be the same. With the age of technology advancing (although this has been the case for quite sometime - nothing new,) players will be able to download games on the Switch device itself, rather than having to go out and get the physical copy. With that being said, some games that plan to release for the Switch have had their storage space size revealed. The list (source: Nintendo and Gamespot) is as followed:
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 13.4 GB
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 8.00 GB
  • Puyo Puyo Tetris - 1.09 GB
  • Disgaea 5 - 5.92 GB
  • Snipperclips - 1.60 GB
  • I Am Setsuna - 1.40 GB
  • Dragon Quest Heroes I & II - 32.00 GB
  • Nobunaga's Ambition - 5.00 GB

Of course the stock micro SD card can be taken out and replaced with an even bigger one. The release of the Switch has been marked down on March 3 and is listed at US $300/£280/AU $470. >>Source

Ban paged shows last 72 hours so data was missing. Will have to adjust our system to try to accommodate for the change.
