After taking a look at the error you'll notice that the problem is conflicting files.
In this case I'm able to simply delete the files preventing the update with the following

sudo rm -R /path/to/file

However is this really a viable solution?

What if I needed the files that were causing the conflict?

No, do not manually remove individual files from the system in that manner. It will lead to issues in the long run.
