Dell Inspiron restoration lol

Hello guys.. lol another project landed in my lap. Previous projects iv posted have been a success thank to the community! So here's my question. I'm restoring my moms old dell Inspiron 1750. This thing is a monster lol compared to my MacBook Pro. So the laptop isn't wanting to connect to the wifi. Looks like the only connection it will take is Ethernet. Yes the little button the controls the on and off wifi toggle is set to on. My main goal tonight is to put a simple easy to use Linux "Ubuntu" on the Harddrive and wipe windows 7 off of it. So here's the question. Do I go home and plug it in via Ethernet cable and try and update it or replace drivers? Or should I wipe it and install Ubuntu and plug it in via Ethernet and do it that way. It sounds like it's a common issue with these. Is it a hardware issue or a software issue? I read something about uninstalling the software and stuff through device manager and uninstall the hardware? Any nudges in the right direction are greatly appreciated guys 🤝
If you can't do it through ethernet, your wifi card might've kicked the bucket.

Hmmmm ok, I'm at work and don't have access to a Ethernet cable. But I shall try that when I get home. If I can access the internet what steps should I take? Update drivers? I read the computer will say system is up to date and still not work.

Ah idea! What about a USB wifi adapter? If the wifi card is dead wouldn't that pick up where the wifi card left off?

Just put the drivers on a USB and install them that way maybe?

Are you asking us whether you should try fix your Wi-Fi issue or wipe and install Ubuntu?
Have you done anything to try and figure out why your Wi-Fi isn't working?
