Wondering if the risk is worth it and what are the chances of getting penalized by Google? I own a forum and can't afford to get penalized. However i need to boost my SEO. I haven't made much progress in 6 months, i have done all of the free SEO as possible it's time i move to advertisement. Need some tips.
Thank you.
Get like 5-15 high ranking domains to list your forum, that's enough.
Don't need mass amount of shitty backlinks

Don't buy, work together with those boards.
Announce them on your board or something with a banner for 2 weeks if you can get a backlink etc.
Be creative with this, they don't bite

You need to find backlinks which are in direct correlation with your niche, maybe some other forum boards.
Social media is great but will do little boost in seo.
In my opinion buying backlinks it's dangerous. You can make your backlinks mannually - quality backlinks.

Social media is great but will do little boost in seo. Eh that's the thing, there aren't many direct correlations with my niche there are 3 competitors however which will not allow it and view it as advertisement because they're idiots lol. I'm going to add it to my blog though, that's a good idea. I can probably get it added to another blog or two as well, however they aren't 'big' websites. They probably get few hundred up to a few thousand visitors (defined by google analytics) a month
The time when you could spam backlinks and hope you'll rank #1 are long gone.
Aim for few quality backlinks that are directly related to you niche... so if you're buying make sure they're getting you TARGETED backlinks on some decent websites.
Google doesn't penalize much but it will not help to spam backlinks.
Sad they will not help you with backlinks, make your own sites then with some content on it and let it age a bit
It really depends on the quality of the links. if they are good aged PBN links then yes. If they are spammed backlinks from a bot then no. It can actually damage your site's ranking.
What is classes as a good backlink that's what I don't get? Surely something like a new blog would be a bad backlink since it gets no traffic and has a bad ranking?
Thanks for all the help guys.
It depends on where you are getting these backlinks from. If you are getting links from high authority famous websites, you are surely gonna good exposure and benefit from these links. But if you are getting links from spammy, low quality websites with or from a page that only has outgoing links, you are not gonna get much benefit from such backlinks.
Okay, so a lot of people are giving you vastly misinformed answers here. First things first: Backlinks are outdated. Like way outdated to the point that they almost amount to nothing in neither the eyes of Google nor other search engines.
What you want to do is make sure everything on your site is SEO-optimized, that your blog has regular posts (and stop god damn keyword spamming, guys!), and that your forum design is mobile-first.
Those things alone account for something like 70% of your SEO-traffic according to studies and personal experience. Now for the few backlinks you do want, and I suggest no more than five or so, because - again - it really is not worth putting that much effort into, you want to get them from a niche that is as close to yours is possible. If your direct competitors do not want to cooperate, move one step up on your vertical.
For example:
Your forum discusses efficient ehtereum mining, and your only two competitors are unwilling to cooperate in backlinking. Move a step up to forums that deal with the broader aspect of ethereum. If they are still unwilling to cooperate, move another step up to cryptocurrency forums. The idea is, that the further up your vertical you move, the willingness to backlink to you increases, while you only suffer minor loss in terms of accuracy.
DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER
buying blacklinks well depends on their quality and if the niche is match
anyway too much is always bad things to do. becareful.
