How to create a bootable USB stick on Windows.
Download Universal USB installer First, you’ll need to download Universal USB installer which is a program that lets you install a selection of Linux distributions on a USB drive.
There are many ways and programs you can use to do this however I've found that Universal USB installer is a wonderful program that hasn't given me issues, like some of the others.
Step #1 Choose the Linux operating system of your choice from the menu
Step #2 Locate the ISO of the Linux operating system you have saved on your computer
Step #3 Choose the drive that you want to install the Linux operating system on (Your USB stick)

Step #2 Turn on your PC, press the window boot menu/option key (F12). Wait for the first screen to appear. They key should be right there, usually at the bottom or top. Something like “Press F12 to Choose Device“. Press that key before the screen disappear.

Congratulations that's it you are finished!
You will now be able to login to your Linux operating system. I was using Kali making this tutorial so my login is
Username: root
Password: toor
Some flavors of linux has different ways of logging in or starting up their graphic user interfaces. Example by typing startx to open the desktop environment for Backtrack R2
I personally use a 32GB USB drive so I have plenty of space to add tools and to save things I absolutely need, with a larger size flash drive you can hold much more.
These little tools are great for those times you don't have your personal PC with all of your own collection of tools. I like to use bootable UBS's because it's just safer when borrowing or sharing a computer without worrying about viruses or keystroke logging. I'm also able to test my friends wireless security and devices without having to carry around a laptop or my desktop.
There are different size linux operating systems and different sized USB thumb drives.
Be sure to look at each before choosing to be sure your chosen operating system is going to fit on your USB stick.
Kali linux - 2.9GB
Parrot security OS - 3.6GB
BackBox - 2.2GB
Samurai Web Testing Framework - 3.8GB
Linux Mint - 1.8GB
Ubuntu - 25GB
Arch Linux - 551MB
There are many different linux choices to choose from the list above is just a short list I put together.
