I'm writing a paper on strain theory by Robert K Merton and using scenes from Breaking Bad for examples.
I'm stuck on one of the adaptations: Retreatism.
Are there any scenes that show retreatism in Walter White or any characters in a scene?
If you don't know what retreatism is, here you go: the rejection of cultural goals and institutionalized means. Meaning that you don't care about achieving anything in life nor caring what you do in life that's deviant or criminally. An example would be a drug user or alcoholic because they do not have a goal of becoming rich or anything, nor they doing any anything bad. they simply just do not care.
if you have any scenes, please recommend them to me!
thanks,
