I tend to be asked this question the most lol
It is, I guess in a way, sort of hard to explain why. I look at Java and C++ as languages with all these tools inside the tool-bag already. A good example is that you can draw circles, triangles, squares, polygons, 3D is literally built into Java now.
In batch we don't have these tools. In fact, (prior to WIN10) we would have to establish a certain number of lines, each with a certain length, and manipulate the strings to display a circle. Not only that, but we would have to implement a :function that would actually DRAW that circle, of any size, into this CMD canvas, so-to-speak.
I never would have learned the fundementals of DIFFERENT circle algorithms, or Line drawing algorithms, because JAVA already includes them.. I never would have learned how to do those things myself.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that while batch isn't totally powerful, it's STILL a complete language, that is completely capable of WAY more than people give it credit for. Most often the response I get for my releases are "I didn't know batch could do that..". And it's true because of the image it has thanks to the 14 year of l33t DD0S lingo. Currently windows is at version 10, and people STILL think microsoft will just hand out a free ddos tool. It just has a bad rep.
Lastly, I hope all of this answers your question, but when it all comes down to it, it's all about the fun in challenging myself. I find it fun to make batch do things it's not really supposed to do. It's just fun.
