A lot of people who has known me for a while knows that I have been rocking an X58 system with a Core i7 920 for a long time now. I have been meaning to build a new PC for some time but CPU performance improvements really hasn't gone anywhere in the last few years, until now. With AMD becoming prominent again, we are finally starting to see real gains, even if it means via higher core counts. So I feel that now is a good time for a new build.
While AMD is surely the better buy for most cases nowadays, I will still probably go with an Intel build. I don't think I am a fanboy, most wouldn't consider me an Intel fanboy. I always try to deal with facts when it comes to decisions like this. So what facts am I dealing when making this decision? None. I just want Intel. I am not entirely sure why. I just feel like it's "better". Does anyone know why I feel this way? Do a lot of people who go with Intel feel this way?
I had an 990x one day, replaced it for a 4770k at some point, which a few months ago I have turned into a server system. Currently doing most my things on a laptop with an 2670qm. Looking out for a new CPU sometime this year. Kinda waiting for cannonlake or maybe even icelake before making any decisions.
I do have a APU for a HTPC. And my first CPU ever was an athlonx2. So not a fanboy or anything. Ive just pretty much always had Intel for anything major. I suppose the track record speaks for itself kinda.
Human stupidity : Buying something they have no clue about, and then ask if they wasted their money.

A lot of people don't like change, and that's often okay. I can't speak on behalf of someone that wants to stick with Intel since I want an 8 core CPU or greater next go round and I'm not paying $500 for a CPU only.

Next gen Intel Series will finally have 8 core desktop chips but watch them pull something retarded like 8 core no HT for $500 and more for HT with bringing out i9's on normal desktop socket.

"I feel it's better"
Facts don't care about your feelings and this muh feels is inherently a left wing way of thinking
Can I ask did you vote for Hillary Clinton?

They have marketing behind them. There were times in the GPU war where AMD had GPU's that were far faster than nvidia's at far lower price point & still got outsold.

It was at this moment Steve Jobs vowed never to allow a product his company produced to be of quality better than what a 4 year old Chinese boy can make.

I have no idea what politics have to do with this thread - fuck me dead that was such a ridiculous jump of logic that it's ludicrous. Also, the historical references to marketing doing a huge job isn't as relevant in the modern times when we have not only got better access to reviews and real world performance details prior to purchase, but in the day and age of crypto mining/AI where people look at the efficiency, value and output of a product pretty closely prior to purchase, a trendy marketing campaign won't have nearly the same level of impact. Perhaps in the regular consumer space where people just pick up a HP laptop/desktop off the shelves of their local PC shop for some web surfing at home, but the enthusiast space is a huge space that these companies are actively vying for market share in.

Well to be fair, he sort of explained the relation to politics by saying that decisions based on feelings is inherently a "left" way of thinking.... which it is...
Regardless, you've been around in the COCH for a while now... I'm sure you've seen your share of fanboys here..... the argument of "we have all this data at our disposal" is kinda moot, never mind the honest people who just haven't looked into things.
In certain markets yes there are people who do their homework before jumping into a new CPU/GPU for that matter, but there are FAR more people who still will be on the "Intel will always be better" or "AMD = space heater" train and those are the people that they were talking to more so, not really OP I don't think.

The only people who do research into products before buying are the minority. You are trying to tell me marketing is less important today when its bigger today now with facebook they know what you want before you want it. Companies spend billions of dollars on logos to make logos trigger certain responses in your brain. They spend billions on marketing notice how every product tries to get celebs to endorse it? It works if someone sees some autistic faggot on Mountain Dew & Doritos then he thinks wow I wanna be a pro gamer I will drink Mountain Dew also!
99% of people are fucking retards and part of being a retard is buying products without even trying to research a little bit. Go look at the shit politicians do to market themselves or what Mark CuckerBerg does
Notice Mark Cuckerberg using a booster seat? He doesn't want to appear short & meek so he hides his height.
Look at this video here also
Notice Mark's side of the couch is 6-8 inches tilted so he appears the same height as Bill?
You don't even notice these but they affect you. Did you know Mark is only 5'5-5'6"
Did you know only 2 presidents did not have blue eyes?
Nixon & Obama
Did you know all Presidents have been very tall height?
If people cared about the quality of a product more than marketing explain to me how Razer keyboards are popular? They use Chinese knockoff switches & have terrible build quality on everything yet they are more popular than the big brands. Razer is a brand not a product same for Apple, same for many products. Explain to me objectively what is better in a Razer Blackwiddow Chroma compared to a Corsair K70? Specs are worse, build quality is worse, similar layout, worse in every way yet its more popular.
How is Apple popular? Apple hasn't made a quality product in decades.
Are you familiar with he term DIY sales for computer components?
AMD always performs far better in DIY than OEM sales.
OEM are the majority of sales people buy a prebuilt Dell Desktop & turn it on. The people buying components are still buying Intel but compared to OEM sales AMD always does better. DIY sales are for people who know more about computers than the average joe and AMD does fine here. Covfefelake was outperformed by Ryzen on Mindfactory DIY sales but overall Covfefelake destroyed Ryzen due to OEM sales.

You can find peoples political affiliations pretty accurately by the way they talk & act. Read up on how the R vs K selection theory can be applied in political field by Anon Conservative https://www.anonymousconservative.com/bl...on-theory/
Leftwingers think much more feminine & weak and more like R selected animals while conservatives think more like K selected animals and more masculine.
One feminine & weak trait is to always worry about feelings & use subjective measures to avoid conflict where no one can criticize you. Its not just that he said he felt it was better its that he said it felt better as an argument knowing that no one can counter the argument by saying YOU DON'T FEEL THAT WAY. Where if he made an affirmative statement such as I believe it would benefit me better to have Intel because I play only this single game that performs better on Intel with something that we can actually measure.
There are things the right wingers do that are bullshit as well but the avoiding making a measurable statement is a left wing technique. Right wingers often follow appeal to tradition or appeal to nature fallacies, left wingers are more appeal to authority & appeal to ridicule/popularity.
