Cord Cutting with KODI (Fire Stick & Roku)

I figured this was too simple to put into one of the hacking threads so ill put some information on it here.

First of all, why anyone would be paying for a satellite subscription for cable TV is beyond me. Aside from the fact that internet may not be readily available in some areas. So anyway if you haven't heard of kodi or free streaming software by now i'd call you a dunts. There are many media streaming platforms on the market of which most are free (including Kodi). Kodi is the most well known of the media streaming platforms probably due to its massive following in any case it will be the one we focus on today. There some Key differences in the Roku and fire stick in how they operate using there OS related with kodi I will highlight below. First some background knowledge. The Roku is not capable of reading C++. C++ is the writing language used by the software engineers to construct Kodi, Thus rendering Roku incapable of running kodi. All hope is not lost, and we start with Roku because it has a more complicated procedure of completion.

Roku

With the Roku you will need to cast Kodi from a computer or android (no root required). The iphone will require a jailbreak.
First, we install Kodi. On PC, MAC, Linux, it's a fairly simple download from there website and install. You will need to download an apk from https://xbmc.en.uptodown.com/android for android. As for the casting instructions, I will assume you understand how to operate your device. Once you are successfully able to cast onto your device, you will need add-ons. Which will bring us to our second part of using Kodi with Roku. Also make sure you turn on install from unknown sources in Kodi settings for this to work.

Add-ons & repository's

This will cover the use of both the Fire stick and Roku, as the layout of Kodi doesn't change from device to device. This may be the most tricky part for some people as kodi itself comes empty. Using your navigator, find the gear icon (symboling the setting interface) at the top left cornor and center of two icons of exiting and search options. Then navigate to file manager. once there, you will click on add source. Then you will click where it says "<None>" and this is where we type in the URL repository so that we can download the add-ons we desire. URL repository's in this case are essentially small online managed URL's that link people to a thing they want, with no download. Although we will be downloading something. Here are some online Repo's that are popular.

http://jesusboxrepo.xyz/repo/

http://repo.mrblamo.xyz/

Once you have named the media source for this repo it will "install" and you navigate back to the main interface.
Now that you are at the main interface click on add-ons. You will now click on the open box on the top left corner of the interface. Click install from zip file and click on the name you made for the Blamo or jesusbox repo (i'd recommend both). Navigate back and click on install from repository and click on Blamo or jesusbox. Depending on which one you do first click on video add-ons and either install the add-ons; Genius reborn (jesusbox) or project Neptune & placenta (Blamo). These are the add-ons you will use to stream unlimited movies and shows. Click on the add-ons I told you about and they will install. Then they will how up on you add-ons main interface. Kodil is also a decent repo for some add-ons.

Fire Stick

To install kodi on your fire stick you will need to down load an app on the fire stick called "Downloader". Search the url "http://get.droidadmin.com" and download and install. Click on the text box called "your code" and type your 8 digit code. This should bring you to the "KODI NO LIMITS" app store. Download and install Kodi 17.6 as that is what this tutorial is for. Make sure you turn on install from unknown sources in Kodi settings for this to work.

If you guys have any questions just ask down here.

Some description of what these programs are would be very helpful to this guide. Some users may know what they are but some may not (like me lol.) good guide on how to get them working though

hes just telling you how to install Kodi which is a app that enables people to stream content from online repositories with their Roku streaming stick.

I think most of the repositories are sloppy and having to switch from one repository to another trying to find a movie is annoying, some people would pay just to have a smoother streaming experience then messing with Kodi

Psycho, Kodi is a media streaming app. Not sure what other "programs" you are referring to.

No bosh. HF is a good forum to start doing research on.

Yeah slowly doing more, it’s hard though because I mainly post from my phone at work. Can’t really be an excuse though because I learned what fire stick and Roku were by a simple google search.

If you are paying a large amount of money to a service to watch TV shows, or any other movies, I highly recommend trying this. It even includes network's like HBO, Epix, starz, showtime and so fourth.

I'm trying to get my buddy to cut cords.

He got a firestick, jailbroke it and all..but the issue is that movies/shows take ages to load. He's got decent internet, like 200mbs down. I'm guessing the repo might be bad or something.

Needless to say, what is your suggestion on finding a good source?

I'm glad you asked that question because I have had the same issue as your friend in my past. The short answer is trial and error with your add-ons. I can give you some helpful information though. So as you may or may not know the add-on searches a database of many streaming networks to find a suitable or playable stream. It just so happens that many add-ons have different collections of "streaming databases" (for lack of better terminology) that they search through. For example, out of the two repos I have listed in the tutorial, the Placenta add-on, in the Blamo repo has a better chance catching a decent source for TV shows and series. Whereas Genesis Reborn and Neptune Rising has better sources for movies especially new movies.

Honestly if I ever want to watch movies I'd pay 10$ Netflix rather than mess with Kodi or waste time looking for a movie, but anyway nice tutorial 🤝

Understandable. You do realize that Netflix and the add-ons used for streaming hundreds of thousands of movies cannot compare right? I mean go try and watch the Guns of Will Sonnet on Netflix lmao or even Game of Thrones for that matter. Have you ever seen Avengers: infinity wars on Netflix? My friend, I advice you to spend that 10 dollars on something rather that netflix. Let me know if you need more in depth help in doing this.

I do agree that there are some movies you cannot find on Netflix though
