Linux is open source operating system. Also, it gives u way more better control over whole system. Bcs its open source u can manipulate it however u want, unlike Windows. And 99% of tools are written for it. And if u are interested, reason why Kali is better than any other Linux distro is bcs most of the tools are pre-installed, which is not case for other distros.

I cant find a good forum for linux People who sell tools on HF target skids or people with very little to no knowledge at all, they all use Windows. Linux is 100% documented and open source, you can manipulate the kernel in any way you like if you know how and its openness allows you to complete tasks that would be much more difficult if not even impossible under Windows. Also if you get into penetration testing you will encounter Linux machines very often so it's crucial that you know how to use it in case you find one in your way. Those who prefer Kali over other distributions do it for the high amount of pre-installed tools, but there's nothing else special to it.
look at it this way... if using linux can be compared to dancing, then using windows can be compared to dancing in a full-body cast.
You can dance both ways, but without body cast it is way easier and more elegant 9x HD5970

you dont have to use kali linux though i use linux mint as my main os then run kali on my laptop. I have a few tools like burp, nmap and others that i mainly use on my main os as i prefer using desktop instead. All tools on kali will run on any linux distro so find one you like its just kali is easy as it has everything you need all setup on install.
I see this question come up often.
Take a step back, does a computer program cares at all if the code trying to hack it is coming from a Windows Operating System or Linux? Does it care if you are using C, C++, Assembly language or point and click. It clearly does not. What you can hack and how well you can hack depends on your skill and understanding of the target program not your operating system. So there is NOTHING wrong with learning hacking using Windows. The reason linux is preferred is because it is target for developers and comes with a lot of developer tools, something that would benefit a hacker. The question is simple: as a hacker what kind of operating system would you prefer: 1) An enclosed system made for regular user with a lot of limitations (for example inability to inject packets) OR 2) An operating system that open, created for developers and comes with lot of dev tools downloaded ? Logical choice is always 2. |
