Send and Receive free sms, explanation needed.

Hi there folks,

I have registered here after day or two of searching the internet and i would like someone to give me answers to few of my questions.

I saw users who offers such services (sms verification) so they must be more knowledgeable than me and im hoping they will be kind enough to explain me a little bit more about those things.

1.
In real life, if you have sim card and you send sms to someone in your country you will pay fee (in my country its circa $0.045 for 1 sms , i checked right now). If you send sms to someone who is not in your country, you pay more.

So how someone can send sms for free, even if the person who receives it, is in god knows what country, 3000 miles away from sender???

Someone should pay for that  "free" sms right, or not?

2.
I saw on the internet term "Virtual Mobile Numbers" and mostly they are used for verification ( 1-way sms) and there are "Phone Numbers" that acts as standard mobile ones and offer 2-way sms ( you can send and receive sms).

How people create those "numbers"?
They pay to get them or create them out of thin air with programming languages?
Or there are other options?

3.
There are services that gives you new phone number.
Some give you "Virtual Number" and some even provide you with number from real sim cards, if there are any difference at all?

You can pay monthly fee to use your new number for unlimited sms (send and receive across the globe).
But, can you use your new number for purchasing goods through sms? (On some sites you can buy things via sms).

If you pay for sending normal sms, that means the number provided have credits (you bought credits for money or as it is called you have prepaid number) or owner will get the bill at the end of month (postpaid number), either way that means you can use new number for buying stuff ,right?

I hope that someone will answer me and if so, i want to thank you in advance,

Cheers o/
hey i'm new here as well i've been around but i keep forgetting my damn account login so here i am. found allot of this information online some of it is my own so credit to them as well.

your questions are a bit confusing to me i can't tell if your trying to get phone service for free or if your just trying to understand how this could possibly work.

for 1. i believe you are asking how sms could possibly be free for person/company i actually use an older method to "text" for free I use email and most phone carriers have "a SMS or MMS to email gateway" so if i wanted to text my buddy for example and i know he's using an At&T phone which is popular here in the US I would send from my email (his example phone number) - [email protected]

AT&T: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
T-Mobile: [email protected] (SMS & MMS)
Verizon: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Sprint: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Virgin Mobile: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Tracfone: [email protected] (MMS)
Metro PCS: [email protected] (SMS & MMS)
Boost Mobile: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Cricket: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Republic Wireless: [email protected] (SMS)
Google Fi (Project Fi): [email protected] (SMS & MMS)
U.S. Cellular: [email protected] (SMS), [email protected] (MMS)
Ting: [email protected]
Consumer Cellular: [email protected]
C-Spire: [email protected]
Page Plus: [email protected]

2. i'm not 100% sure i'll probably get roasted for this one but i would have to guess they act as the server server receives call > forwards call > you recieve call allot of people have tons of experience programming these servers so it's probably not hard for them to recreate them into a phone service i'm sure it's not that easy though there are probably API's out there

3. This is really iffy all virtual numbers i've used before somehow don't really work when signing up for websites / google etc. I think this is because allot of the companys block spam / etc to save space and these probably get marked easily as spam. I would get an api from one of these company's and maybe try to piece together your messaging protocol.

but you need access to an SMSC on a GSM network to send the messages either directly or via a device with a SIM, thats what you pay/rent for. hope i could help u out some.
