I've run into a big headache with my school computer.
I did a factory reset, and now it constantly uses 100% Of the disk.
When I'm doing nothing, the disk usage is low, but as soon as I open a program such as Google Chrome, or just the file explorer, it raises to 100%.
I've tried the following things:
Disable Superfetch
Disable Windows search
Disable Windows AV
Ran Chkdsk. (Took 8 hours, I left my house and when I came back, my pc was just showing the start screen so I'd imagine it finished, but didn't get any notification)
Removed all temp files.
Updated all drivers and windows system.
Changed settings in Google Chrome
Resolved PCI bug.
Reset virtual memory.
I run on a computer that has the following:
Intel Core 6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.60GHz
16 GB RAM
I'm desperate to fix this, it's such an annoying issue.
All help is appreciated.
Did you disable indexing?
Did you try to disable every services concerning data collection ?
There is also a way to forbid it through a register key > create a dword32 called "AllowTelemetry" and set it to 0.
I don't remember where to create it, but it's easy to find it on the internet

Tried both, thank you very much though. 🤝

Just open a browser or any app. Its windows defender. You cant do anything about it. If you keep your pc busy with anything else, it wont do it.

The problem involves the disk. You should include that in the OP. I'm seeing like a 8 hour difference between when the issue occurred, and when you replied. Thus its probably not an update issue. Side note, you can expect such disk usage if you're using a 5400 rpm 2.5" hard drive. Add a snapshot of the "resource monitor" program; disk tab; filtered by the write column.

I've tried a few things which has helped a bit.
But I still experience that it raises to 100 disk usage when opening a program.
It becomes lower after a while now which is progress.
Here's a screenshot of my monitor when opening splice (A music app that shouldn't take too much disk space)

And when opening Diskord which as you know really shouldn't use too much of the disk to open.

Start Windows into Safe Mode and let us know issue persist or not.

Oh I see, you need a new hard disk mate. This is not the usual 100% usage bug. Get a new 7200rpm

That's not a solution...
If you have the know-how then the fastest and easiest way would just be to do a clean install of windows and an upgrade to an SSD (unless you already have one).

Hello, every time i boot in safe mode, it just starts a hardware scan and then says “no errors found” and then restarts.. :(

As I said, it's not a solution. Would a clean install be an option? -any recent changes before the computer went full retard?

Thanks for the replies guys, might need a new HDD.
This was caused by the clean install. :/ I did a factory reset and it went full retard after that.

I had a friend with this issue. Its driver uncompatabillity. It needs a new HDD or windows 7.

You've neglected to include the info I requested. Good luck.
