Just got back from Marine Corps Boot Camp

Literally just graduated yesterday and I'm home on leave.

Anyone have questions or anything? I have some pretty funny stories if anyone wants to hear them.

How many boxes of crayons did you get in the marine MRE?
Do you feel different than before? If so, how do you feel different?

My favorite story was around week two so we were still getting messed with and treated like the scum of the earth.

We're eating lunch chow and of course the Drill Instructors are walking around our chow hall area to make sure we weren't being stupid or anything. I saved my fruit (an orange) for last because the skin on the chow hall oranges was pretty tough and took a bit of work to get off, didn't want to waste time doing it and maybe miss eating part of the main meal etc.

My DI sees this and the following dialog takes place:
Tostig, you disgusting thing. Why haven't you eaten your fucking fruit?
>Good afternoon sir, this recruit does not know.
Well, fucking eat it.
-->I pick it up and start peeling it.
ZERO!
>Freeze!
Did I say peel it?
>No, sir.
Good. Eat it.
>Aye aye sir.
-->I take a bite out of it like it's an apple and start to spit out the peel.
ZERO!
>Freeze!
Eat the goddamn fucking peel.
>Aye aye sir.

I got through a third of the orange eating it like an apple with the peel on it before it was time to leave the chow hall since the guide was done eating.

More stories to come after I come back from dinner w/ my family.

Do you actually get physically punished?
Do you feel like you've grown and developed your character?
Seems like a great out-of-comfort zone thing to do.
Hey - congrats man. I know it wasn’t easy. But be proud of yourself. Quite the accomplishment
Congarts , now days its bot easy to walk away for long time
Welcome back. I have a few friends join the marines out of high school. I have heard some interesting stories.

Woohoo congrats and a BIG Thank you for your service!

Yes, through incentive training and just the Drill Instructors messing with you.

For example, if you're doing a bayonet assault course or low crawling for a 100m stretch the DI, especially if he doesn't like you, can tell you to go to the beginning for some nitpicky reason, like not properly scanning for traps or not keeping your weapon up at the enemy, or my personal favorite, not war crying loud enough.

Yes. Many things that I wanted to do before that I shied away from because they were difficult or because they would be inconvenient now seem like they're "unlocked".

It's a great feeling.

Where'd you go for basic and what job did you pick?

Probably not the type of thing to be posting on HF devildog. Loose lips sink ships, OPSec and whatnot.

I don't see a problem with what's posted. Nothing he posted discloses any specific information.
