Who's got a GTX 1070TI? Debugging

Hi all ✌

I bought a GTX 1070TI a few weeks back with promising FPS results, although that isn't the case anymore ...

My system's fairly dated with an i7 [email protected]/z with 16GB 1600MH/z RAM, Corsair HX850W, etc, etc.

Games ran fine at the start, now my card's struggling to get a stable 60FPS in games like BF1 and Far Cry 5. I assumed it was possibly a CPU bottleneck with my usage spiking to 100% at times. I've done all the general debugging in terms of drivers, reverting both my CPU and GPU overclocks to default, ran only two DIMM's of RAM and so on. Some games run fine and my UNIGINE benchmark results are lining up with what they should be for the card.

I initially began to think it's a CPU bottleneck, although I've seen results with my CPU and GPU and they're far from the same.

Now, could it possibly be a PSU issue with "dirty power"? It is getting fairly old and I can hear the GPU fan spiking or "revving" randomly - shooting from 4,000RPM to 6,000RPM for a second or two periodically.

Thanks for any help. 👍
Thermals? What PSU you have? Can you screeenshot DXDiag (windows key +r type in DXDiag and click enter)

If your benchmarks are showing normal its likely not a GPU hardware issue causing performance loss.

Are you trying to run games fully maxed out? Because if your stacking like 8x MSAA nothing will run them. Disable shadows as they are CPU intensive.
To add to this, grab MSI Afterburner and setup the graphing for resources (cpu usage, gpu usage, ect) leave it open while you game.

After a while check the graphs if the CPU is maxxed out when you have lower FPS then that’s that.

But realistically with graphics setting tweaks in game a 1070Ti should be fine with a 2600k at 1080p.

CPU's sitting at 65-70 when under full load with shitty ambient temps, but nothing it can't handle. The GPU's peaks at 80 degrees with a +200MH/z Core Clock and +400MH/z on the memory.

I'm currently playing some Battlefield 5 maxed out and getting a somewhat stable 60FPS no issue at all - I know the card can push more but my CPU's stuck at 100% usage when playing it.

Yeah mate I've done that, results are somewhat inconsistent in terms of showing a clear CPU bottleneck.

Genuinely think it's just old hardware that's starting to die out ... I've already ordered an i7 8700K based on this assumption but really just wanted to see if I was wasting my time.

Hardware doesn’t die out. It may be outdated, but it either works or it doesn’t, there is no middle ground.

Just in case..... you know you need a new motherboard and ram too right....

I'm not even gonna argue your first point lol But yeah I know, I've got an Asus Z370-A Prime and 32GB Corsair 2666MH/z RAM on the way too 🤗 I ain't that dumb, man
