8K TV not showing 8K using HDMI 2.1 connected to desktop

Hi

This probably isn't the best place to ask but I'm hoping or a quick silly overlook or a quick 'thats not how that works'.

I recently bought an 8K TV and a high end pc for watching some downloaded 8K footage (had just 1080p before).

In display settings it only goes to 4k resolution not 8k, the box has no display port so im using a HDMI 2.1 that is advertised to run 8K @ 60hz.

I called the Samsung support and they told me to plug in an 8k device, idk what the fuck that even means.

I tried to see if I could alter the resolution on the TV settings but I can only change the aspect ratio to 16:9.

Am i trying to do something impossible or what?
With what device are you trying to connect it to 8k tv?
What resolution are you using on your computer and do you what your using for the hdmi 2.1 like are you using a gpu or a motherboard port? it can be many things

Which exact TV and which exact motherboard/graphics card?
Human stupidity : Buying something they have no clue about, and then ask if they wasted their money.

Make sure you are using the latest Nvidia drivers for the gpu I would recommend getting gefore experience installed

what cpu are you using?

Everything is up-to-date and all components are fine and should work, I'm going to try and drop to 30fps and see if i will then get the option for 8K.

I think if you use a display port it might work tbh as hdmi isnt all that good for high res shit anymore

TV's dont usually have display port, and this one is no exception :(

Thats why I bought an 8K HDMI
Your have everything you need to do 8k
your GPU can do it
your cable can do it
your tv can do it

"The resolution caps at 4K"
that should not be happening

are you using any other monitors or something on the same card?
Also what settings are you looking at exactly when you get this cap?

Nope only the TV, this is on display settings and on nvidia control panel.

I'm guessing the TV is the limitation but I don't know, the Samsung support are useless because 8K is still so new, theres hardly any support or online help.

*GTX 1080 Ti can only output 8K on the displayport. HDMI is capped at 4K, which is exactly what OP is experiencing.

OP, you need to find a way to convert the displayport out to HDMI in on the TV. I don't know if there are any products that support 8K60FPS DP1.4 to HDMI 2.1 yet.

Thanks for the tip, you're probably right about not finding a cable lol, thats what you get for buying bleeding edge tech. Guess I'll wait a year or so.

I didn't buy it for that specific reason, I couldn't care less lol, just a cool idea.

It still has '8K AI Upscaling' 😏
