Facebook is asking for my phone number.

Facebook says that it's "noticed some suspicious activity on my account" and is asking me to enter my phone number so it can text me a confirmation code that I can enter.

I do not put my phone # on the internet for privacy concerns.

Is there any (legal) way of circumventing this?
You can use a phone verification service to bypass that.
The best way is to quit facebook. If you want to have any "privacy concerns", you shouldn't be on facebook in the first place

Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

Use SMS verification service. You can find those here on HF.

Is an SMS verification service legal or illegal?

RENT THIS SIGNATURE SPACE CAUSE I NEED BYTES TO GAMBLE WITH

I entered a few phone #'s from the free sms verification services and it says that facebook doesn't recognize it.
Usually after verifying phone it asks for ID.

I would just start a new account at that point.

I second these wise words. I on the other hand don't care much to put my info online.
If you have serious privacy concerns, delete your account. Facebook isn't the best place to be on if you care about privacy imo.
Also you can use those alt numbers that apps give you. Although I'm not sure if it will work because some websites have filters.

I don't think that it's illegal. Depends if the numbers are obtained legally.
SMS verification services are legal.

SMSPVA.com has good and cheap numbers you can use.
Is there any FREE sms verification service?

I don't own a credit card.
You can use your phone number or use an SMS service. Note though that it may set your phone number that you put in your settings and you will receive verification texts to be able to access your account. Anytime I use a computer elsewhere it wants to text me.

That's true, especially after they got exposed for selling data and stuff (which most companies do secretly anyways).
