Why Aren't People Required to Respond to Deal Disputes?

Why aren't people required to respond to Deal Disputes posted about them? It seems to me that people should have to explain why they scammed or be permanently banned from the site.

I got scammed by user Ploofay, posted a Deal Dispute (https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=6030406), and nothing happen to the guy. He's even scammed other people and still gets to do deals on HF.

What's the point of deal disputes if people can scam and then keep on doing deals on HF?

HF DOES NOT GET INVOLVED IN DEALS.

Deal disputes are so others can see he has disputes before dealing with him.

So no one will ever be banned for scamming on HF?

People constantly expect HF staff to be your little protector, you're a grown up, handle your own deals accordingly. Yes, people get banned ALL THE TIME for scamming. Among thousands of things to do, HF staff cannot spend time researching each deal and acting as a judge on your behalf. Don't be dense about it, that's what get's you closed. Deal disputes act as a measure for other members to reference before doing a deal.

If someone scams you, do you honestly think a policy on HF would make them respond to the deal dispute? I don't.

This makes sense to me but will be one reason why this site won’t get a penny out of me. If I am spending money on website for anything then I expect the admins to look out for me a bit. Hey, I supported your website and got scammed. Can you help?

No! You get closed for bothering me! So I lost all the money I invested because I thought I mattered? That’s lame in my opinion.

I see your point, but I disagree. Perhaps you're viewing this site as Ebay or Amazon; It's not. It's a online forum which happens to provide a place of transaction. Unlike Ebay and Amazon, HackForums does NOT cut and percentage of sales you make. Would you be fine with giving 15% of your sales to Hackforums staff to protect you from bad actors? Maybe, but I would bid that most people wouldn't want to pay this. Not only this, but you are now asking that Hackforums act as a PROXY to your sales, AND a middleman.

I'm not trying to suggest that Hackforums staff turn a blind eye to scammers, they don't. But, I am saying that you're expecting HF staff to do something that no other popular forum does, proxy sales. Heck, not even Craigslist handles scammers directly. They rely on the members to "voteban", except, Hackforums actually provides a way to "vote" a seller as unsafe and provide contexual information at the same time.

Like I said, I don't hate you for having your opinion, but I would hope that you would at least see it from staff's perspective.

All this being said, I didn't even mention the legal side of proxying sales for people on a "hack" forum.

Yes, I do. If the policy states you must reply to a Deal Dispute filed against you within a specified time frame, say 24 or 48 hours, or you're automatically banned, it either gets them to respond, or they get banned and that's one less scammer on HF.
if they did that and someone had issues like internet went out of power etc.. that could cause issues for people. As for why they dont ban ppl for scamming, that is explained in other post made by staff. They do ban ppl though it is not there job to do so. It is your job to check to see if they have scam reports and to do your homework with who you are dealing with. I can understand you might be dealing with someone that has no scam reports and then they decide to use you to start a scam prea but this is still not something staff is able to control. making it so a scammer would come and say why they scammed you or make up some excuse to how it wasnt a scam would not help any situation. they can say anything and would have still scammed you. Just do not deal with someone you find to be sketchy and do your best to avoid being scammed. use ppl who will middle man for you to be safe. Lavish living offers this service and is a trusted member here on HF. Don't let his selling ewhore packs deter you lol.

You're making the assumption that all disputes are opened as the result of a scammer; They're not. If you read through the subforum, you will clearly see it's sometimes a result of a mistake. Moreso, you will see that it's because a seller went offline for a period of time due to unforseen circumstances (usually over 24 hours). When things happen in the real world, a $5 contract quickly becomes the lowest of prioities.

Last I checked, when a dispute is opened, you're notified via convos/pm. If the "scammer" is online and ignores this dispute, then that's indicative of something sketchy. What's I'm getting at is simple, there's more aspects to a situation than just not replying to a dispute. I think applying a generic time constraint on a dispute is a bad idea.

Hahaha! the selling ewhore packs line actually made me laugh out loud LOL

Ok I see the point you guys are making. It would be impossible for staff to keep up with all the deals on this site. Just gotta be more careful when dealing with people on this site.

Usually not until they mass scam and it's harmful to the site, that's when staff jumps in. Up to you to deal on your own terms and always deal with caution.

Requiring a response is a dumb idea. Scammers would lie and legit people could be wrongly punished. Deal Disputes serve 2 purposes. First is to alert other members. The second it to provide an opportunity for both parties to resolve the Dispute. It's not a system designed to punish members for having a Dispute, such as restricting their account.

mackmall is banned for being a real prick. Not going to tolerate his BS. If he has been here for 8 years he should know the sites policy and position on deals.
