Am I Smart If I Am A Programmer?

When I was younger, people referred to programmers as to some smart god-like entities, that are not only smart but also earning good money as well.

Although I am not working as a programmer, (i dont have a job, with some work on portfolio I could get a job i guess), I code in my free time and I know about 7 programming languages (and many other technologies) if not more. Am I smart then? I dont feel smart honestly. What makes you feel smart is if you can get money easily.

Unfortunately I do not have money... Nor I can get it easily... Only choice for me left is to join the workforce like every other guy in the world...

So does it mean im not smart?
I believe programmers used to be very smart and intelligent people.

used to? you mean they're stupid now? 😯 😯 😯
I'm a programmer, and I'm a fecking idiot. So no, not necessarily.

Programming is nothing more than learning the language of the "computers".
You don't have to be very intelligent to do so, but you must be able to recognise a lot of codes as well as being intelligent enough to remember the right order of the codes. OP wouldn't be smart even if he was a programmer.
What does smart mean to you?

Programmers are probably above the general population at problem solving but I've met some pretty dumb programmers still...

Don't think about it too much, just keep on learning- ask when you wonder and take a break and come back when you get stuck. Do your best and don't let others' knowing more scare you- because it doesn't matter who is the best.
The essential cause of the stability of our currency was to be sought for in our concentration camps. The currency remains stable when the speculators are put under lock and key.

I would say it depends. I mean, if you’re just copy and pasting code or looking up how to do things repeatedly. I would say no, but if you can look at code and know what’s wrong, yes.

Ye, I believe the same. Not everyone can be a programmer.
I mean, if you're good in progamming then yes. But it isn't like that you can program you are smart in everything. I can work in linux but I'm dumb as hell for some basic crack tools.
Knowing a code language doesn't mean you are smart.
It's whether you know how to use it to make smart thing or not.

Let's figure your question out by looking at the definition of the words smart and intelligent, shall we?

Smart:

Following one of the given definitions: being a programmer doesn't mean you dress well, at all. I've met programmers that wear the same old clothes every single day.

But no, to answer your question, most programmers I come in contact with are completely lost in what they're doing. Sometimes, not having the slightest clue how things work or why/how the code they wrote works. It's not because you know how to talk to a computer, so to say, that you're efficient at it. Nor does it imply that you have any advantage over others in any other scenario.

E.g. A programmer, by trait and education, will not be able to build a skyscraper or even model one without the proper guidance, tool set and education.

This is very good advice and way to look at it. I couldn't agree more,
