Casual storytime

This incident from a while back just popped into my head and I wanted to share it with you guys.
So this happened when I was around 12. I also had a cat who was pretty much my best friend at the time, one thing he really loved doing was climbing the balcony railing which was super dangerous (We lived on the 6th floor of a flat).
One morning I woke up, it was around 10am and I come out of my bedroom and head to the living room. As soon as I walk in I see my mom with a terrified look on her face, I kept asking what happened and it took her like 2 minutes to form a normal sentence. She said our cat fell off the balcony and that my dad rushed down the building to help.
I'm fucking shitting myself at this point because that goddamn jackass was the cutest thing in the world and I thought to myself that there is no chance he survived. I change my clothes as quickly as I can and go follow my dad.
I get down and see my dad carrying the cat. We don't bother going back to our apartment since we thought to ourselves 'He is lucky to be alive, he's probably got internal bleeding or something, we should save as much time as we can' and we do. We immediately head to the vet which is thankfully only around 5 minutes away from our flat.
We get to the vet and explain what happened, I'm traumatized and in tears because I thought by cat fucking died. Couple moments later the vet examins our cat for a couple minutes and hands it back to us. No medication, bandages or anything like that. He told us (and I kid you not) this badass literally survived a 6 story fall and ended up with a bruised liver, the vet said that he should rest for a couple of weeks and he will be as good as new.
We ended up making the balcony railing unclimbable for the cat after what happened but damn is the story wild. I know cats are agile but I had no idea they were THAT agile. But hey I ain't complaining lol. Little retard is still alive today and is the living definition of badass.

The end.
Dang that's crazy. I've never heard of anything ever happening like that, but I guess it's possible.
Hmm... I don't know what happened but I don't think a cat would survive a 6 story fall no matter how agile. Maybe something else happened. For example he fell off your balcony and managed to fall on the one below you. And then he went down safely.
Lovely.

I don't think that's the case, all the balconies of our flat are perfectly aligned so I doubt thecat knew how to navigate itself towards another balcony while falling

Cats are smaller and lighter, they take a longer amount of time to reach their terminal velocity, which in its self is much slower than say the terminal velocity of a human. Many similar sized animals can survive falls of that height. This is not at all uncommon.
I remember hearing when I was a kid that a cat would survive a 10 story fall, but not a 2 story fall, because they have time to adjust themselves over 10 stories (probably not true). Cats are light and extremely good at landing softly when they fall. A friend of my wife lives on the 4th floor and one of her cats got out of the window somehow, she was sure that the cat had died, but it turned up a couple of days later, pretty much fine.
i think a cat can survive a story drop, you'd be surprised.

Great story and it's incredibly lucky your cat didn't suffer any more injuries other than a bruised liver. Lol. They are indeed very, very agile creatures, but it's smart you and your family made the balcony unclimbable. What's your cat's name by the way?
Oh, this story made me remember about my passed away cat. He survived 19 years, which is a lot for a cat that was going out in the wild/fighting/... But in his last year, he was going blind and weak, but he still loved to climb (usually with some help) on my window to sit/sleep on the edge. I was almost closing the window pane for him to still feel the fresh air but to i thought it was enough to keep him safe. And one day I heard my mom yelling my name saying that the cat fell of the window. Only a 1 story fall, but for a blind, weak, old cat it's a lot, and could have been the last jump and my mother couldn't see him and was petrified. So I rushed downstair only to find him on his 4 paws, trying to understand where he was using his smell and meowing. I checked him, kept him under surveillance for a few hours, and everything was fine. And he didn't care that much, he still wanted to get on the edge, I just secured it much more so he was only able to have his tail or one paw out to feel some fresh air.
