Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei - Discussion

Hello, I don't see a discussion thread on this anime, so I thought I'd create one.

This anime is also known as The Case Files of Jeweler Richard
Quote:The novel follows Richard Ranashinha Dvorpian, a handsome British jewelry appraiser, and Seigi Nakata, a bright and upright Japanese college student. The duo solves various jewel-related cases by unraveling the hidden psychological aspects of their owners that lie within the gems.

You can find more about the anime, here: https://myanimelist.net/anime/40230/Hous...azo_Kantei

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.

As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.

The anime has a rating of 6.5, almost a 7. I would say that's a pretty good rating for the anime. This anime can be very boring for people who simply don't have the patience to sit down and watch about gemstones and jewelry. Just like Asteroid in Love, this anime is only going to be interesting to a select few, probably none on this forum. I will say that, yes, the story can get very boring and you might not care, but you do learn a lot about different gemstones and it doesn't hurt to learn a little. Let's start the discussion!

Nice change of pace in this episode. We are used to clients coming in and wanting to learn more about a certain gem, whether it be to buy, sell, or simply find out the origin of it.

In this episode, episode 7, we get to see Richard and Seigi go to an auction to try and win jewelry that is over 200 years old. Seigi learns more about Richard's past which is cool. There is a slight yuri vibe in this episode for sure.

Lastly, I'd like to mention the auction wasn't anything special. I wish it was more intense like you see on actual TV, but it is what it is. See you guys next week!
The anime is slowly going off of the train rails and moving in a different direction. Previously, we had Seigi and Richard working together in Richard's jewelry shop. Every episode there was a new jewel or gemstone that we would learn about and a certain backstory about it or the character inquiring about it. Well, recently Richard temporarily closed his shop and went back to England.

There are a lot of interesting discussions about this anime. For instance, many people say that in the manga, there is a lot more text that references Seigi might be gay and that he wants he falls in love with Richard. We notice, that he starts to depend on Richard. He even says he doesn't know what to do without him and he also states he's not sure what he means to him. The anime constantly switches between a gay and a straight sexuality tone and it's all over the place. We see Seigi falling for Tanimoto but we also see him crushing over Richard. There's nothing wrong with that, you do you Seigi.

In Episode nine, we learn a little more about Richard and his past life. Additionally, we learn more about his family in general. I said this anime is changing directions in a previous paragraph. It's somewhat staying to the roots of gemstones and such but at the same time, it's not. At the current moment, we have Seigi trying to play detective and trying to figure out where in London Richard actually is. While this is entertaining, it's not really following the plot of the anime.

As I said previously, it is entertaining. I'm curious to see what tactics Seigi will use to get away from Richard's cousin, as I believe he is very sketchy and is using Seigi to get to Richard as well, as he wants the diamond his great grandfather had left after passing.
What an interesting episode. It has for sure took a 180 and it's gotten to the point where Richard and Seigi are practically lovers. This episode was filled with so much yaoi-bait it's unfunny. Reading other discussions, everyone else practically wanted them to kiss.

There was some funny stuff that went on in this episode and I am curious to see what the last two episodes are going to be like.

Richard is back in Japan which means the shop will continue running business as usual!
I am excited to write my final review for this anime. As much as it wasn't popular this season, I did enjoy my time watching this anime. However, my rating of seven has gone down to a six.

This anime started off great. It had so much potential and I was learning something new about gemstones every episode. New people would come to the shop and everyone had a different story. At first, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this anime, but I soon realized that I did.

Sadly, once you get towards the last few episodes, this anime starts to crumble. The whole Richard going to England bit was just silly and I didn't like it at all. Yes, we learned more about Richard's family and some backstory of him, but other than that, we didn't learn too much about any gemstone besides the one that was given to his family.

Now, the last episode was just plain weird and random. The ending of the episode was very wholesome and it wasn't terrible, but it was the strangest thing I've seen yet. If you've seen this anime you'll know what I'm talking about.

In terms of the characters nothing special. I will like to add though that Seigi has grown so much as a character. You've seen him develop into such a nice, young man. I'd like to see how things ended up with Tanimoto-san considering he kind of brushed her off during this episode!

Speaking of Tanimoto, I feel like she was a butterfly. By that, I mean she flew in some episodes, flew out in others. That is a terrible metaphor, but hopefully, that makes sense.

Would I recommend this anime? Eh, no. Sadly, there's nothing I'd say that stood out to me. If you are into yaoi-bait and boy love, you might like this anime. This anime was screaming Seigi and Richard wanting to kiss, but not doing it. There were many theories, and I, myself, thought that Seigi and Richard at some point fell in love. At certain points in the anime, you are just screaming kiss each other already.
