Man Has Two Guesses To Remember Forgotten Password For $220 Million Bitcoin Wallet

Seems like it's been a bad start of year for some as the CEO of Coil.com has lost the paper containing the password key to his Bitcoin wallet which contains 7002 BTC, and has 2 password guesses left before the wallet self seize the Bitcoins.

Quote:Stefan Thomas, a German-born programmer living in San Francisco, has two guesses left to figure out a password that is worth, as of this week, about $220 million.

The password will let him unlock a small hard drive, known as an IronKey, which contains the private keys to a digital wallet that holds 7,002 Bitcoin. While the price of Bitcoin dropped sharply on Monday, it is still up more than 50 percent from just a month ago, when it passed its previous all-time high of around $20,000.

The problem is that Mr. Thomas years ago lost the paper where he wrote down the password for his IronKey, which gives users 10 guesses before it seizes up and encrypts its contents forever. He has since tried eight of his most commonly used password formulations — to no avail.

Someone tell Stefan to try "admin123", works every time.

I personally know someone who has around $111 million and cant access their wallet even after countless meetings with different officials, he is waiting for something in the future that will perhaps help him gain access, pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

Well, that's unfortunate. I wonder If the dude in the OP will somehow get it or not.

Doesn't everyone have that one friend that is a bitcoin millionaire, but 'does not remember their password'?

I do.

My dad can also beat up your dad, and my main account is Zezima.
Honestly, what a fucking fail that is. I read the dude is still rich off crypto but still. I'd feel like dying knowing I could own anything I wanted if I could only remember a damned password.

I'm sure this is nothing in the scope of idiots in the world suffering due to loss of access to their wallets. They tell you to write down that security phrase or random words for a reason. Kinda no empathy, its complete user error.

Russian Roulette is one hell of a game to play.

Just don't lose and you're all set. Easy money.
