just wondering if its possible to start a cash cow youtube channel now in january and expect some decent profit by the end of the year, or are those monetizing methods dead?

They're not dead, they simply evolve from one niche to the other. Also, yes you can make decent profit from it, you won't be making much this month or so as it's Q1, but by the time Q4 comes, you will have much higher CPM.

You can cover finance and business topics within the software/programming/engineering space. They will be bit more niche, but you will still be able to play and try videos from both sides every now and then.
