As we all know 2020 was a tough and confusing time for all of us. I got laid off from a job where I found my confidence. At the beginning of 2020 though, I felt like I was burnt out (being a bar back and bar manager assistant) as it really took a toll on me mentally and physically. So when I got laid off due to COVID, it was kinda like a blessing in disguise as I needed a much needed break, working long hours 6 days a week.
During the pandemic, of course it was a time to reflect and focus on yourself just a bit more. I've also gained a few habits and interests (some bad, mostly good) during this time and one of them sparked my interest for PC gaming again. I was always interested in them, but never really took the time to play or invest because of work life and financial issues with my family. During this time I've also came across a few streamers who now I watch almost every day, or when they are streaming. It was a coping mechanism for me, as I was always introverted my whole life. I was never the one to watch streamers all day or go on twitch/youtube gaming on the daily to watch these people, but then I had a moment and said, "now I get it.." I even bought my first gaming PC earlier last year and it's definitely a beast..
One of my interests that sparked over the pandemic was cyber security and programming, even though I was always interested in those fields, but it grew even more during this time. Also, I didn't want to live off unemployment until it ran out, so I decided to apply to jobs that do remote work and I gotten a few from companies and it made me stay at home even more, but at least comfortably. well in the summer of 2021, my bar job finally got back to me to work and at first I was hesitant, but they were willing to make me a Bar lead/Manager so I went for it.. I wasn't as excited as I once was anymore when I first started working there. My drive was gone, my dad had passed away a month after going back, legal issues, and new people and covid gave me more social anxiety. so I told my bar manager (around November or December 2021) I might end up leaving in January because I wanted to pursue cyber security. Even though she was sad because we had developed a bond over the years, she understood and knew where I was coming from. Now that I left, I am definitely more happier! Started school again for my bachelors, working a few remote jobs, and getting my life back on track... of course with gaming on my mind every single day :)
I know this post was all over the place, but I just wanted to share. And I wanted to know from you guys, what kinds of habits or interests/skills did you develop over the pandemic that was either minor or significant?
