At the beginning of my journey
The year is 2012, having visited the site as a guest from time to time, I've decided to join the forum.
I'm a very closed-off - shy person. It's no surprise to most people who know me. I was never interested in being part of communities. Growing up, I've always been very isolated. I still am, to a certain extent. I'm glad I decided to go against my better judgment that day. Hack Forums shaped my life for the better.
Upbringing
Over the years, I have matured at a young age. We are blessed to be born in a time with an online library where most knowledge we seek is accessible and growing bigger every day, as well as opening the door for people to work from home. Hack Forums allowed me to make a reasonable income that helped me support myself and my family. I'm eternally grateful to have had the opportunity to build knowledge and offer my services. I hope to be in a position to give back to this community for many years to come.
Guidance
I remember my first encounter on the platform. I was looking for a specific strategy in a game that I couldn't find any information on online. I decided to post about it, to no avail. Some days pass by, and suddenly I received a message explaining in full detail how this trick was performed. I was grateful, this had helped me progress further. I was surprised by how friendly and open this community was, so I decided to explore other topics. I embarked on a journey, had a few chats here and there. I've met and befriended some very sincere and intelligent individuals, some even had an enormous impact on my life.
Career
I've never had an opportunity to study Graphic Design, par for the course that this was the only school in my city that offered this education, so getting in proved to be a challenge. I applied sometime in 2013 to discover that my application was denied due to there being no space for new students. I decided to work for a whole year instead and wait it out until I could apply again—which didn't matter—I was rejected once more. It was a devastating period of my life. I've come to terms with it and decided to study IT instead. However, I could never let go of my passion. Whilst studying, I decided to go with a self-taught approach, dedicating the majority of my free time to learning whatever I could online. Hack Forums was one place where I found many talented artists, conversing about design and even offering each other helpful advice and resources.
Conclusion
I'm hoping in 10 years from now to look back at this and relive this moment, observe my changes coupled with how life has generally changed for everyone.
I will continue supporting this community to the best of my abilities and work on bettering myself in the process. Although I'd like to believe that I do have a strong skill set, there's always room for improvement. If it's one piece of advice I can give to a new member reading this. Follow your dreams, even when the road ahead looks rough, strive on, set goals for yourself, and never give up on your ambitions.
