I'm so pissed. Blaine Higgs, the premier of New Brunswick, Canceled something called the NB-Connect program. This had something to do with EI, Which stands for employment insurance, basically you pay into this every pay at 8% deduction, and if you get laid off of work you have something to fall back on while looking for more work. This is great for seasonal workers, and students, who can't work during school, because it's a full time job as well. NB-Connect made it so students studying full time could claim EI and help with living expenses taking a huge burden off of their shoulders, but Higgs just cancelled that, meaning any student paying into EI is now getting ripped off of their money, not receiving support, and are literally being told to go into debt. This action was to solve the Current labor crisis here in New Brunswick. They are telling us to go into debt and work shitty, barely above minimum wage, or minimum wage jobs that are hard and do not align with our goals and dreams. This decision effects thousands of students here in New Brunswick, and me as well. I was working towards my EI goals so I could attend college in the fall. My money is being stolen right out of my pocket.
If you have a problem with this, you can do one small things:

Sign this. I don't know if these actually help, but it's the only thing we can do to voice our opinions and outrage at this point. I'm sure there will be massive protests in the capital city in the near future. Thank you for reading. I'm not sure if these types of links are allowed, but I needed to vent somewhere, and I want to share this link with as many people as possible.
Honestly you should just get paid meanwhile you are studying, in my country people get anything between $500 - $1300 from the government every month, meanwhile you are studying.
But yeah, that sucks when they take away something that would really benefit the people.

The fact that you only had to pay 8% of your pay with minimal taxes(part time students pay around 5% in the atlantic provinces), as opposed to others with fulltime jobs getting taxed at 30-49% every paycheck, proves my point that you were getting a benefit you did not deserve in the first place. PETL was meant for those who were already in the workforce, returning to school to better themselves in their careers in order to boost job advancement morale, not fresh out of high school--abusing the system to grant themselves an additional paycheck ontop of their student loan.
This was compensated for the original intended recipients in new brunswick with the approval of student loans for the 2022/2023 school year.
Do not forget that Premier Blaine Higgs also signed an executive order that paid students $1200/month with no prior work history to sit at home during covid19 pandemic. And those students that worked 8hrs/week, suddently got $2000/month in addition to their student loan which they simply didn't deserve.
Put down the pot, the government of Canada isn't conspiring or hurting you because they're not spoon feeding you everything. This is exactly why the rest of Canada can't stand the Atlantic provinces.
Okay, so what about the students half way through university depending on this system to literally feed themselves because student loans do not cover the entire cost of living? Students got 2k once, ohh big whoop. Nice 500$ a year for 4 years of university. I'm returning to school and was going to use this system as I've banked my hours and earned it. I'm not fresh out of highschool abusing it. There is more at play than the very few examples I listed in the OP. It's a very stupid stand point to think every single young student should go into crippling debt in order to meet their goals in life. And as well, is it really abusing a system if we LITERALLY earned that system? no I don't think so.

Where are you from? I think that's a good idea, but we will never see it.
I wish individuals were not treated as for profit machines but I suppose that's what makes this dystopia real.

However, if you attend school.. you don't get paid... you will go part time to school and part time to work. Sometimes the employees will make you stay or over your shift to clean up or fix stuff. Over here they overwork you if you're a labor and pay you very little where you might not be able to eat 3 meals a day.
Work is work. The united states isn't special because you have to stay 30 minutes after your shift to clean up. I would regularly stay an hour past my scheduled time to help clean up our entire kitchen. Luckily I have a good job now where your work period is your work period. School is not a part time deal. It is a full time job with 6-8 hours of classes everyday. Working part time is possible, but it's a very boomer mentality to think students should NEED to work while attending school. EI is 55% of what we earned during our working periods, and EI is exactly for situations like students going to school. NB has the second lowest post secondary education attendance in Canada, and taking away relief for school will not help that. It's clear that my politicians are back peddling. In 2018 he also did away with the free tuition program, so he's really taking the piss on students.
also lets do that math. lets work a part time job at 20 hours a week while going to school, just for you hard of heart boomers.
13.75$ (new minimum wage here in October) x 1.15 = 11.69$ an hour, after taxes.
11.69 x 20 = 233.8$ a week. x2 for a 14 day pay period = 467.6$
generally two pay period a month, two weeks each. so multiply 467.6$ x 2 = 935.2
Lets break down my cost of living, just my cost of living.
Rent: 475$
Hydro/Power (equalized): 150$
Internet (remember I'm going to school, this is a necessity): 40$
Gas: 150$ (roughly 40$ a week and I'm being generous here)
Phone: 80$/ month. I consider phones a necessity. I need to be contacted. My work needs to be able to contact me, my family, my friends, my school also texts me for information.
after those bills, I'm left with 40$ a month for food.
Tell me again I should work part time while in school
