Graphics Processor

The do NOT buy Nvidia RTX 4000 series unless you are legally an idiot thread

So Nvidia has shared specs and pricing for the next generation of cards.

RTX 4090: $1600
RTX 4080 16GB: $1200
RTX "4080" 12GB: $900

Straight up, don't buy them. You will be scammed. The RTX 4080 12GB is effectively an RTX 3060 equivalent GPU die but with added memory for double the price, or triple that of two generations old. The 12GB and 16GB models don't even need to ship with the same GPU die despite both being called an RTX 4080. It's intentional deception.

Yes, even adjusting for inflation, Nvidia has raised prices by more than 35% so that the price to performance ratio remains flat and margins go drastically up. I.e. you are getting screwed with zero added benefits. It just costs a lot more than before. Buy an AMD GPU. Buy a used Nvidia GPU off ebay or similar. Don't even consider RTX 4000 series as a viable product, because it isn't at these prices.

Want to know the margins for AMD, Nvidia, and Intel? Have a watch below.

AMD 6000 series cards just had a price drop as well.
Thanks for the Info!
I won't I'm happy with my 3090
The 4080 12GB should have been called the 4070. The product line is already confusing enough as is with the 3060 being 12GB vs the 3060ti being 8GB.

I'd go as far as to say 4060 Ti due to die sizes and costs associated.
Only thing I can think of is r/theydidthemath.
Might be tempting for some to get the 6800XT considering 1usmus is working on something to make it outperform the 3090Ti.

I'm not sure this is going to amount to as much as is being advertised, but sounds interesting.

Real news of the day is Intel is launching the Arc A770 with MSRP of $329 and performance around that of an RTX 3060.

That'll put significant pressure on prices as that is sufficient performance for the majority of people. No reason to spend triple that amount for only a slightly better experience.
Gary I think webdev77 is telling you to get a 40 series

🤣

It's honestly way better than I expected and ironically somewhat usable for playing games.

Edit: And to add on, there was an AMD 6900 XT on sale for $640 today. That's about ~2% faster than an RTX 3080 at 1440p gaming.

Really compliments the 128gb RAM and i9

Look how cute they look

Why don't you play vidya games Dyne!?!

I'm surprised they still make GT 730s and 1030s tbh.

The first time I read their announcement of two 4080s I lost a lot of respect for NVidia. They simply could of just been honest and called one a 4070 or maybe a 4060Ti. It's so shady, knowing most people will just see the VRAM difference and think they are the same die.
On Vacation, won't be able to reply for 2 weeks.
Although I agree that the RTX 4XXX series is overpriced, I plan to buy a 4090.
I'm pushing 4K@120Hz and my RTX 3090 barely provides some of that.

Short of AMD releasing RDNA 3 information early (that beats Ada) I plan to stick to this plan.

That is your choice to make. Shame because all that does is cause prices to go up even further. Simply waiting a few months before buying puts enormous pressure on Nvidia to lower prices due to poor initial sales.
