I just feel like the internet only spreads social contagion these days. People thinking they identify as attack helicopters because their weird cliques on TikTok and Discord tell them that it's okay.

Exposure to extreme violence and sexual content. Swearing (not horrible but like you know), and nothing but negative news. Not to mention that we have become MORE racist as a culture over the past 15 years because of the internet.

Like take Reddit for example - it thrives off of anger and hate. That's the only reason the website is thriving. People love drama. I can't in good mind give my future children access to these things. They can have heavily moderated access, and I will be having a conversation with them about the dangers of the internet.

The internet has given a social platform for every group of people. Every type of person to zoop*iles and p*****iles has a "safe space" to go these days where their screwed up beliefs can be validated over and over again whenever they want. This, I think, turns people into absolute monsters who believe that their way of life is not only valid, but correct. It's a scary phenomenon.

What do you guys think about it?

I think expose to the internet with guidance / debate (every now and then) to distinguish bs from not is a good to have. I know real life examples of younglings that I am proud of.

As per your point of you, it’s correct and they are the common problem in the internet.
We have lived without internet but the future depends a lot by Internet. For example education, money transfer etc.
Do you have any solution for such a scenario?
We can’t force them to stop using internet. Even if we do so, that will get them kindle to use it.

I have a 4 month old son, honestly here's my take.

If I don't expose my child to germs, his immune system will never learn and grow.
If i don't expose my child to other children with fear of bullying etc, he'll never become social.
If I don't expose my child to fun, in fear he will hurt himself, he will never want to do anything.

I will not shelter my son for fears and insecurities of the world. Did my life turn out great? no, but that's my fault. I did not learn to express myself, because I was sheltered myself. Now I'm 9 months sober from drugs and alcohol and recovering.

My son will be taught to use words, feel emotions, work hard, play harder, and to be loving and kind.

You can shelter your kids all you want but that doesn’t mean they won’t be exposed to things from other kids at school. Kids today thrive off of TikTok trends. You think every other parent has the same mindset as you? Think again.

Kids are going to use the internet whether you want them to or not. Teach your kids how to be responsible users.

In my opinion moderating their internet usage would be a much better option but obviously the final say is all yours.

you're using the internet so why not try to give your children whatever criteria you're using to help combat the negatives

Keeping them from it is the worst thing. Expose them to the dangers and what to do and not to do online. Setup filters at home to try to block some dangerous pages. Everyone (including schools) use internet.
