How to Reverse Engineer a Software program?

Hi:

I'd like to learn how to reverse engineer software serials and the like that way I can learn to write my own keygens, better protect my serials on my database apps, etc. How can I learn to reverse engineer? I have zero programming training outside of being able to pick out the meaning of really old HTML but not much else. Any ideas?
Thanks:
Versitude R.
Im gonna be real with you.... you will not learn to reverse engineer without being atleast aware of how programming languages work. I'm not saying you need to know how to write C++ with your eyes closed, but you need to know what memory addresses are, how assembly language works etc.

So my advice would be to follow HackTheBox's course on Binary Reversing and also look into the basics via YouTube - such as using cheat engine to change memory address values.

I would recommend Paul Chin's website, he has two courses on the topics you're interested in. The CSL and CSP courses. https://crackinglessons.com/
Thanks all for the advise:

The reason I want to learn how to do this is that no one will do handle the jobs I need for free (and I would never expect them to anyway), I am always curious, and so why not "do it myself"

In response to those who have replied: I have a very basic understanding of programming as I use FileMaker 12 and an (reasonably) comfortable with its calculation and scripting facilities.
I am also very familiar with SetupBuilder by Lindersoft and its scripting language
>> Learning SetupScript (the SetupBuilder Scripting language has taught me how to debug (using their tool of course) and a lot of patience as I try to "squash" the last showstopper in my installs. I know how to ask for help when I need it and look in documentations and the forums of various places when I get stuck
I just don't know if any of that extremely basic hand holding will help me in my journey because to be honest a lot of my setups are practically "written for me" as the SetupBuilder IDE uses a lot of point-and-click "visualizers" so 95% of the code is written for me and I only need to jump into the script to fine-tune things. Same with FileMaker as a lot of it is "fill-in-the-blanks" type deal. Again I don't know how much of that will transfer over... but I'm hoping it will.

Again thank you all for your advice and I will be looking into it.
Thanks:
