Would you take a pay-cut if offered a job you like more than your current one?

Title, wondering what HF thinks about this, you can also vote in the poll.

The wages in my country are already too low so it's a no from me. But I am making money from side gigs.
I guess it would depend on how much of a pay cut for me. If it wasn’t a life changing amount, I’d probably switch.

Not a life changing amount, but enough to notice you have to downgrade some things (again, not significantly, just by a little)
As long as I would be able to afford my financial responsibilities, I would take the pay cut for sure. Hard work never killed anyone, stress did.

Good respnose. A lot of people would say no just so they can stack money up, despite their stress killing their soul.

That's also a good argument, but unless you're planning your escape, it isn't worth it. At least IMO. I would rather work 80hr weeks doing something I love rather than work 40hr weeks doing something I hate.

And honestly, if you love what you do, you don't think about working the 80hrs as much as you would working the 40hrs. A lot of people who work a 9-5/M-F look forward to the weekend and hate Mondays. We should all make adjustments and learn to love Mondays.

I like this answer.

It would matter how much the pay cut would be
Depends on how much pay was cut.
Depends on the job itself.
I prefer the job I work now because though I work long hours on the days I do work, I only have to work 14 days out of the month and get paid incredibly well.

The job is very dangerous and can be quite stressful, especially on long-nights. But it provides for my family and has me able to prepare for when my children become teenagers, get cars and go to college.

Would I prefer a happier job? Sure, who wouldn't? Am I sad about my job? Far from it.
As Nostre said, if you are still able to afford your basic living expenses then go for it.

If you have found a job that you truly love, it may require certain sacrifices, such as reducing your expenses on eating out or partying. These sacrifices are reasonable, especially if the job is something that motivates and fulfills you.

If there is potential for growth within the company or position, then it's definitely worth pursuing. Taking a pay cut for a while is also a good option if you believe it will lead to better opportunities in the future. However, it's important to carefully consider the long-term prospects of the job and whether it offers room for promotion or raises. If there are no opportunities for career growth or financial advancement, then you may need to weigh the value of the job against its financial compensation.
Emerging from the Shadows…
I voted no. My line of work is stressful irrespective of the institution or organization so I don't think switching to a low pay job would benefit me unless I shift to a different sector. The other thing is, Ive gotten used to my salary and a reduction would affect my motivation to work.

Love the lengthy replies on this one, some pretty valid responses!
I've done this before so I can say yes. It hurt losing the money, but my overall mental and physical health improved. You don't understand how much better OVERALL you'll feel until you do it.
Nice to meet ya.
You pay to enjoy life. So accepting a lower wage for a more enjoyable life makes sense.
As Nostre said - if I can cover all of my living expenses with the decreased pay, then absolutely. You’re only here for so long, you might as well do a job you love than be miserable and stressed for 30 years. Not worth being stressed over that crap.
Staff will never reach out to you off-site. We only communicate on HF.
