A couple just moved out in our building.

Pretty common occurrence around here. But you know what's surprising?
Most of them are very stingy towards their caretakers, even with all those millions in their pockets.

We're basically living among millionaires and billionaires, just playing the role of caretakers, my partner and me.

Downsides? Oh, you bet. They have this uncanny knack for ringing you up at the most inconvenient hours, and when they say it's a "small job," it turns into a full-blown project.

But here's a silver lining: every now and then, you hit the jackpot with some sweet rewards.

So, today was the day Selena and Matteo bid farewell to this place, and we lent a hand.

Now, they initially promised it'd be a quick trip, just a few boxes to toss in the car and a five-minute drive to the storage unit. But what we got instead was a full-blown, sweat-inducing moving-out experience.

I swear, I got my daily workout in, and then some, dashing up and down three flights of stairs like a maniac.

But hey, the perks rolled in like a wave. Our New Year's Eve party? Sorted. Thanks to the fancy champagne and top-shelf booze they gifted us. (about 600 worth)

And the loot? Oh, it's a treasure trove. A PS3 with about 15 games, a useless Blu-ray player (who has discs anymore?), a brand-spanking-new printer, and a four-year-old but still decent monitor.

Honestly, I would've been content with this haul, especially since Matteo couldn't pitch in due to his injury, and we were doing all the heavy lifting.

But then, Matteo surprised us with approximately 250 bottles of homemade beer from his Cotswolds farm and a cool 150 in cash.

Now, here I am, all alone and itching to give that PS3 a spin. I've never really played one before, but with this pile of games in front of me, it's like I've stumbled into a candy store. I want to try them all.

So, I kick things off with Uncharted 2. I'm about 30 minutes in, really getting into the game, and bam, the PS3 just shuts down. I'm guessing it's overheating. So I put it on top of a teabox to help with the breathing....but I truly think it will be a spares sell on ebay.

Bit bummed, because I was starting to like the game. So, what do you think? Should I risk it and take the PS3 apart for a fan clean?

A caretaker usually gets a free flat in the basement and a very low pay and in return they keep the building clean, sort the post out and collect rubbish from everyone's front door. No utility bills, no rent. It's a job for life if you have decent cleanliness standards.

You can buy a cooling pad for that PS3 pretty cheap on Amazon. Like $15. If it is overheating, this should help.

Don't fall for a scam, use a middleman!

Great idea. However, the last thing I need is distraction (games).
Will sell it on the bay.

I love how the whole thread had me locked into this story about what you do, the ups/downs of it, etc, but then ended out in left field about a PS3 and asking about taking it apart for cleaning lol.

I used to be a blogger. Not in English tho. In my native language. I really enjoyed writing about ordinary shit but with a big pinch of sarcasm and self deprecation. Sadly I lost the things I wrote because I didn't expect the host to go down.

Very disciplined of you. But maybe keep it for yourself, sometimes it's nice to be able to escape in a game for a little bit.

I'm an all or nothing person. Hence an alcoholic for the same reason.
What you suggest sadly is a slippery slope for me.
It has to go

Ahh that’s an interesting bit of info. Do you not do anything like that with writing anymore? Sorry to hear about losing the previous blog work you mentioned as well. That sucks.

That's pretty cool, but I'd rather work and have a job and live on my own rather then be in servitude to someone.

What a day you had! It sounds like you hit the jackpot with those generous neighbors. The loot is impressive, especially the homemade beer and cash. As for the PS3, it shutting down due to overheating is quite common with older models.
Sounds very good. I need to look out for those neighbors.
Wow! Awesome story and seems like you and your spouse are truly caring people.

Kudos to both of you for the work you do!
